You don't have to switch names anymore.
1. Sign out of Xfinity account before searching.
2. When you enter the address, select you are moving here as a new customer.
3. Once you select the plan, it will give an option to create a new account or login. Login with your existing id.
4. It will create a new account and close the old account on your existing login.
5. You will be charged prorated amount on old account and new account starts right away.
6. Your internet will be on for a while but one day it will stop working.
7. If you owned the modem then you can restart the modem and go through activation process on new login and move old modem over. Else use new rental modem for activation.
8. If you have you mobile lines then you can call them to move the lines to new account.

My wife and I have switched accounts for many years every time a deal expires. I started going in store because you get the equipment right away. You will have to constantly replace modems every time you switch but it saves hundreds.

I saw discussions about the 1.2 TB data cap for customers using their own modems. As a long-time Xfinity customer (around 10 years), I wanted to share my personal experience. I was using my own modem, which does not have Wi-Fi functionality.
In the past three months, I kept receiving alerts that my data usage was around 900 GB, close to the cap. This piqued my interest because my internet usage pattern had not changed. Previously, my monthly usage was around 500 GB. So, I checked my router's app (EERO from Amazon) for the same time range, and here's what I found:
When Xfinity alerted me that my usage was over 900 GB, the EERO app showed I had only used around 500 GB, consistent with my usage in the previous months. I called Xfinity customer service and asked them to provide itemized data usage to explain where the extra 400 GB came from, but they could not. I was transferred between different departments, and ultimately, there was no resolution.
I suspect Xfinity manipulated the data in the past three months to persuade me to either pay $25 per month to remove the data cap or to use their modem. Since there is only one data traffic port in my home, my own modem (non-Wi-Fi function) is cabled to the router, and the router's Wi-Fi serves my home devices. The data usage shown on EERO should be very close to Xfinity's data usage, yet it was 400 GB off.
I ended up closing my account and switching to another ISP. When the new ISP technician came to hook up the external cable, he mentioned that he previously worked for Xfinity. He said that if you don't use an Xfinity modem after one year of service, Xfinity might pull some tricks on the Signal to convince you to pay extra to use their device.
So, please be careful with Xfinity.

free router and flex/xumo?
Depends on your definition of free. You don't have to buy it, but you pay a monthly fee to have it, so you are essentially renting it.

in my expierence . yes.
can get a good modem from amazon used like new for ~$60-100.
is a good investment.
I'm able to use my old modem, Motorola SB6120, for this purpose. You should be able to find them for less than $20. It's an outdated model but works for this purpose where you just need to swap to it temporarily.

Xfinity has great service and speeds but the data cap is a deal breaker. Will never go back unless they remove the data cap.

Do i have to wait for the internet to stop working (step 6) before starting the activation on the new account (step 7)? I'd like to plan out the internet downtime
