1. For first few hrs when deal went live there were no restrictions on quantity and people could do multiple orders.
2. After few hrs, they only allowed 2 orders/account or card. I tried using a new account with same card but unable to complete the order.
3. After 2 orders, I went to target store and bought 8 of them. Each purchase they will give you a small Target $15 gift card. PS: My DISCOVER blocked my card after 2-3 purchase and spent 10 mins getting it back by talking to customer service but be ready for that.
4. Once all purchase was done, I added the amount to my apple account in the Target store itself. I had read horror stories of people getting scammed on this, idk how.
5. I placed an iphone order online using the apple credit, had no issues whatsoever, did a pickup and went to apple store to get it next day.
6. Bestbuy also had this offer last yr but you get bestbuy giftcard which was quite restrictive for me.
Overall combined with by 5% Discover card, my new iPhone 15 Pro came to be around 20% cheaper so worked out really well.

1. Crooks take blank cards from the store.
2. Crooks prepare these cards at home in a relaxed environment, open, take the numbers, close.
3. Crooks take back everything to any store.
4. Grandma purchases this not knowing they were tampered with, sits on it until Christmas.
5. Crooks monitor the card status and as soon as it's loaded, they spend it immediately.
6. Grandson opens them Christmas Day and realizes it's already used, tells Grandma.
7. Grandma learns again that this new world (gcs, cc, mobile wallet) is not for her and she should use/give cash all the time.
8. Next year Grandma forgets the whole experience and impulse buys a tampered visa gift card.
Luckily it's not common where I live but I assume it's happening everywhere in the lost states of NY and CA.

I've been aware of this scam for many years and still fell for it.
What I noticed is that they are not opened from the tamper proof seal, instead the thick paper is split in half from the bottom. So, the seal looks perfect from outside, but the split paper is hard to tell unless someone tells you what and where to look for.
The crooks also obfuscate the PIN inside, so it delays the reporting and redemption process and gives them time to complete the scam.
But, Apple website or the store employee's handheld device may throw a flag and give you an error redeeming high value items. You'll then have to purchase online or contact support to remove the "flag".
