4GB RAM is ok for a lower end Android phone like the A15. It is a 2024 phone so it will get at 4 years update from Samsung.
There are several tips discussed on other SD threads about how to "speed up" these phones (uninstalling unused apps, turning animation off in developer mode and setting RAMplus to zero).
The A15 is probably fine as a back up phone and you are not using multiple apps at the same time. At this low price on straight talk and unlock in 60 days, it is a good deal if you need a back up phone for cheap.

deal is long gone, sharing here to explain for other people

June 12-Oct 13 the free straight talk phone was the Moto G Power 2024 edition if you bought 1 month of silver service. Brand new phone (announced late March 2024) on the market, so new that some phones were not auto unlocking in August (60 days after) for Straight Talk forgot to install the unlock server on their end and thus people had complaints for their phones were not auto unlocking as they should. But by early September Straight Talk had fix this and phones were auto unlocking after 60 days again. My personal phone that I bought right before the sale ended should be unlocking in 32 days *so cross my fingers* (took a week and a half to ship the device, this is relevant for I am traveling in christmas so I need internet while traveling)

New Phone deal is the Samsung A15 5g above. Deal is good till Jan 5, 2025 aka a different 3 month period of this will be the straight talk phone on sale, free after 1 month service.

The A15 has less ram, and makes a horrible T-Mobile phone for it has the verizon 5g bands but not both of the two the 5g frequency bands T-Mobile uses (4g should still work though, and it has one of the two main 5g bands.) Frequency Bands for AT&T it has some of the 5g and 4g bands but not all that carrier uses, but also AT&T has a white list problem where only certain phone models work on AT&T and I do not know if this phone works on AT&T due to that whitelist or not.

Good Luck

Is that the unlocked firmware for the A15?
I asked above if it is possible to flash the A15 to an unlocked firmware similar to what is possible with the S23 but have not yet gotten a response...
Yeah the unlocked FW. Going between U and U1 FW are usually good on US Samsung. But not between V/VL and U1. The A54 is the similar case I think w/ the Tracfone branded variants.

Thanks, interesting. Do you know if trying bricks the phone or just fails?

For the A54 I have seen reports from here and on XDA that the flash failed but not bricking the phone.
No reports for the A15 so not sure. The catch22 is that folks usually use the Patched-Odin to flash but I think the patched-odin offered less failsafe mechanism so may have higher risk here.

Ok, thanks as I have not been able to find details for the A15 either. I have couple Metro ones from earlier this year I have been wanting to try but have not yet made time to do so.

I've read through this whole thread and am still confused about how the unlock works?

I get the phone and activate it with the 30 day plan then just wait 60 days and it automatically unlocks or do you have to do something for the unlock?

No need to buy a second month just wait 60 days from activation?

That's how iPhone unlocks work but this is an Android?

I don't know about the A15, but for the A54, I was able to flash the Metro model with the unlocked firmware and it worked perfectly fine.

I usually have no problem with flashing the unlocked firmware to the carrier models for Samsung devices. Just make sure to use the patched odin.

My Straight Talk A15 is to be delivered today. But this is how it worked with my Total Wireless (a sister company) Samsung A54. I bought the A54 FREE with a required 30-day plan. Activated on 9/13 and its service expired 30 days later. Put it back in the box. On 11/12 (60 days after activation), I turned on the phone, went into Settings-->Network Connection-->More Connection Settings and it showed Network Unlock Status "Locked". I turned on WiFi, about a minute later the status changed to "Unlocked". Easy as that. See attached screenshots.

Sweet thanks! Also after you activate you can text "help" to 611611 then "unlock" and it will give you the date it will be unlocked.

Does it unlock automatically as long as connected to WiFi? Planning on getting for my uncle abroad for Christmas, but I am a little confused on how the unlocking would work if the phone is outside US

When the phone is connected to WiFi, it goes to a site pre-programmed in the phone to check/update its Unlock Status. If the phone is outside of the US and on WiFi, I don't know if it can access that site (the site might check for non-US IP address).

I got 2 of them for $45 with my existing line.

I just got shipping notification for both.
Looks like it's a YMMV deal. I see $75 for two new lines. I activated my first ST line about two weeks ago. I don't think it makes a difference.

Sounds great, thank you! I have only done the S23 at this point, but are the steps the same for all Samsung phones? It will be after Thanksgiving before I get a chance to try on an A15, but I will plan too. Would like to do an S23 FE too.

Thanks again

I would wait until it's unlocked here stateside before sending it to be safe.

If they can't avoid being overseas then they can try using a VPN to spoof the location.
