For $4, snagged this as a general offset hand saw w/ smooth cut.

Searching multiple stores I found that if they were in stock, the $4.22 price applied. Where not in stock, higher price was shown. YMMV but in any case, TU.

Oscillator vs this:

Oscillator: Works great when your cut line is narrow (think the bottom of the door trim) can't beat the oscillator/multi tool for this type of work

This: The rest of the door jam and you want a smooth even cut line

Japanese saw Vs This:

Japanese saw the best for not close to floor cuts, flexing the blade gets old

This: Floor cuts all day long

I haven't used one of these since I got my first multitool... is there anything these can do that I couldn't do with my multitool?

I asked myself the same question. I'm trying not to purchase any unnecessary tools.

Not really, but let's say you forgot to bring the battery then this will save the day. But being honest it will probably collect dust and never be seen hence it's low cost now

These are just as fast, cheaper, quieter, and don't burn up a blade every time you glance in its direction. I haven't used my multitool (for door jambs) since I got something like this.

Not very experienced but doesn't one of those flexible Japanese pull saws do the same thing?

If you are constantly burning blades while cutting door jambs then you don't know what you are doing

Good grief. The point is that multitool blades don't last very long and need to be frequently replaced. Whereas the blade on this manual saw is likely to last a lifetime.

Yes, it does. Only difference is that instead of having to flex/bend the Japanese pull saw to sit it on the floor and cut something like a door jamb this is already offset for you so you can just lay it flat on top of your flooring and make your door jamb cut.

Every store within a one hundred mile radius of me has them at $16.98. Years ago, I swore that I would never get sucked into searching "Select" stores.

Stupid me, sucked in again.
