Oof this laptop is so so close to perfect for me. 32GB RAM, 1TB SD, 5.11 lbs (REALLY good for a 16" gaming laptop) and a 4060 discreet GPU

reasons why I probably won't pull the trigger... Screen is meh, 4070 is a big step up in performance over the 4060 and the processor architecture (raptor lake) has advanced 2 generations (meteor and lunar lake have been released)

I still think this is a really good price for the specs. Is it too much to expect a 4070 with the rest of these specs at this price?

It's 300 nits but sadly it's only 45% NTSC (about 65% sRGB), that and the lack of any USB ports faster than 5 Gbps are the big drawbacks

Ur getting greedy my friend. These 16 and 17 inch Omens are so well cooled and well designed. Don't read too much into the nits unless you plan on using it in a particularly bright room. I've owned multiple Omens and many other brands and for gaming laptops the Omens have been my favorites, often with the low nit screens actually looking great in person imo

Thanks for the advice. Good cooling is definitely a priority for me so this is great to hear. I would love to get a 4070 but getting one at this price seems doubtful. Costco also has the 17" MSI Katana A17 with the 4070, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD and AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS. Purely in terms of specs I feel like getting a newer Gen chip and the 4070 is worth the extra $150. Any thoughts on the build quality and cooling of the MSI Katana a17? (I know MSI isn't supposed tk have great build quality in general but I haven't been able to find many opinions on this specific model)

Weirdly ( I'm weird ), I tried an MSI laptop say 5 years ago and ended up returning it and writing them off for 2 reasons: 1. It had no windows key by design ( I'm sure they've changed that since ) and I somehow didn't notice that until I opened it and turned it on. I use these rigs mostly for software engineering and that was a total dealbreaker. And 2. I find their visual aesthetic mostly "ghetto batman" ( their keyboard font choice is usually particularly bad imo ), so MSI is one of maybe 2 brands I have the least experience with. I have used some of their motherboards in custom PC builds and they were great though. Ultimately like you said it'll come down to your particular priorities.

From what I understand the total wattage ( each GPU, 4060, 4070, etc, has many variations and some are very weak ) and cooling is just as important as the model name, so I'd make sure to check that before assuming that the 4070 you're looking at will for sure be significantly faster than the 4060 you're considering. Wish I could be more help, sorry
