So it doesn't know when it's over carpet, so you have to make a separate map with no-go zones when you want to mop, then another map for carpeted areas. The mop doesn't lift up when it senses carpet (it doesn't sense carpet), nor will it cut the water off when it's parked.
HOWEVER, it does work as a mop if you are very attentive. So if you just leave the reservoir empty for regular use, then once a week or month, want to fill it with water, you just have to make sure you're around when it finishes, and grab the mop module off the robot, and empty it out in the sink when it's done.
But it really just wets the floor... no scrubbing involved. Better to just mop by hand as needed and leave the robot for just vacuuming. Or find a different unit that has more advanced functions.
It's an excellent vacuum and we bought it in august for $160, you really have to watch shoelaces and charging cables... it eats them and gets stuck on the regular.
