wait a second, so this is not a new deal? I guess I haven't been checking, has this always been priced at $699 or $200 above the base?

I guess the retailers are now all selling at apple.edu prices.

$499 model + 2TB thunderbolt drive is a better use of ~$200 IMO => $699 2.2TB 16GB etc

depends, since the 512GB drive is faster than the 256GB

Sure it's faster, but is it worth 200 dollars more?

For me yes, because similar to a CPU bump, it affects almost every task, every day. And many if not most already have existing external storage. I actually still use a 2TB external HDD from 10 years ago, occasionally. It rarely crosses halfway full. With streaming and cloud storage (free 100GB in my case), I don't need much local storage. So IOW extra storage doesn't get used while extra speed is constantly used.

I can see how content creators can benefit from more storage but then faster speeds also help so they'd probably upgrade both.

These content creators could benefit from not making the content they make. The general populous would certainly benefit from it too

I get your point lol but related to this thread, all the tech reviewers are also content creators and are pretty helpful in comparing / benchmarking stuff.

I agree to a point. Most of "reviewers" are company shills now. It used to be honest reviewing now it's more of consumer reports style BS.

the "value" prospect is completely lost on apple products once the $200 "add-ons" are added. the base is good value bc it hasn't abused the consumer yet. it's sad seeing ppl defend apple... they've become so desensitized.. but that's what happens in abusive relationships

If you want value in Apple, buy it used. You can get a 5+ year old Apple computer and it'll still be pretty damn good, can't really say that about most Windows machines I've encountered. I can't imagine getting so butt-hurt over a person's choice in computer hardware, must be nice to have such little going on in your life.

Where did you find this benchmark?
The only disk benchmarks I've found is the M4 base Mini with 256 GB versus the M4 Pro Mini with 256 GB. That's not an even comparison.

Nevermind, I found it. The 512 GB is way faster than the 256 GB:

I wished you could upgrade to the 10GB Nic option on these deals. I'd jump on it spending an extra $100 if I could. But guess I'll still buy through Apple for that heh.
