On the checkout page there is this important detail:

Your service will not begin until your SIM is activated. If you purchased a physical SIM, it will be shipped to you and your SIM will be automatically activated 2 days after purchase. If you purchased an eSIM, it will automatically be activated upon completion of your purchase.

and also this

Limited time offer subject to availability. Offer available on new lines of service purchased at Lycamobile.com only. ENROLLMENT IN AUTO-RENEWAL REQUIRED to obtain discounted offer price. Discounted price available for initial 30-day plan and further 2 renewals, contingent on continued enrolment in auto-renewal (if auto-renewal is disabled or fails, discounted offer price will no longer apply for subsequent plan purchases).

By the way Boost mobile also did this auto activation nonsense the last time they had a slickdeal on a SIM + 1 year of service with unlimited data + calls + texts. Hate to see this becoming the new norm with these deals.

I am not sure i understand the deal:
Why would you want this just for 1-3months? (yes, $10/month is a deal)
- But, it seems like a big hassle, to change to and then again to another cellular service, after 3rd month
I certainly cannot see paying Std rate of $49/month after 3rd month

I don't understand either, unless someone only needs a phone for 3 months. I pay $15 per month on T-Mobile Connect. Wouldn't switch unless it was the same or less for the long haul, and offered additional features I would use, and good data priority.

It's $10.50. Not a deal breaker, but still annoying.
Who keeps this longer than three months? Is it easy to port out?

i used to do this, its not that much of a hassle. you get a google voice number and have that as your main number, then you buy sims from whatever company you want. sometimes im lazy and dont even setup call forwarding from the gv number to the sim number so that calls are made via carrier network, and i will just use gv over wifi/cell data, so even less hassle. The pitfall in this method is that gv doesnt work with imessage and many other 2fa systems.

You guys have to check out their wikipedia page. How are they still in business? They must have incredible lawyers. Suspended prison sentences, amazing.

I didn't get your issue here .. you'll anyways use for 3 months for that lucrative price and you'll disable auto renew in 3rd month... I didn't get you... Please clarify
The only reason it stings is if you want to buy a couple SIMs to save, like the people who buy multiple Mint starters to swap when their plan ends

Sometimes it is helpful to port your number out to a different provider for a bit in order to take advantage of deals on a new phone etc. when you return to the original provider.
