Just a heads up. Best Buy will install this (front + back cameras) for $99. The dash cam can be purchased anywhere, it doesn't have to be from Best Buy.

Great camera. Put one in my wife's car.

Got a new model for my car, DroneXC. Dash cam that live streams the video to my cell phone via 5G. So if the alarm goes off, it alerts me and I can pull up live video. The video is also automatically stored in the cloud. So if the entire car is stolen or they steal the dash cam, you'll still have the footage. Tracks the car via GPS too.

Yes, it's more expensive, but dope af.

Ordered the A119. Lowest price ever. Thanks iconian! Just in time as a friend just bought a new car. I've been using 1080P dash cams from Aukey and Yi in the $40-$50 range purchased in 2019 and they've worked flawlessly. Police officer ruled in my favor and wrote up the report favorably for a rear-end collision. I didn't even have a rear dash cam module, but he noticed the impact in the front-facing model I had. In another car, the police officer saw footage of two cars displaying road rage. One of the cars side-swiped my car and the police immediately ruled in my favor and wrote up reckless driving tickets for the two idiots. Every once in a while, check the camera to see that it's working, and reformat the MicroSD card once a month, and you'll be good to go. The dash cam market has caught on its popularity and they have jacked up their prices. A $40-$50 model will work just as well as a $200 model. You're paying for bells and whistles for the $200+ models in my humble opinion. The only reason why I spent more for the A119 is my friend wanted the name brand at the lowest price.

I just want high quality camera kits that don't require being mounted like a cheap radar detector.

I WANT THE CAMERAS HIDDEN or at least not obvious. I want no screen built in that forces the camera to be 20x the size it needs to be without a screen.

Dash cams are useless if a thief breaks in and steals the expensive accessory with the screen on your windshield

A unit with a remote processing box would also allow for mounting away from the heat and sunlight, like some higher end radar detector variants where everything is hidden.

Anything of high quality like this available yet?
Fitcamx maybe or similar ones which are like OEM stock.

A229 or the Vantrue N4 Pro @ $266?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C3M7HPRT
I'm torn between the two. Couldn't find YouTube videos comparing the two side by side but the Ventrue compared with the Viofo A139 was hands down more impressive with capturing license plates. And when comparing Viofo A139 with the A229, there wasn't that much noticeable video improvements. At least that's what I've concluded so far. I definitely like the Ventrue build more but I wish the rear camera was 2k resolution like the rear A229. I think it's going to come down to preference. It's a coin toss.

Is this true that hardwire uses less battery than the cigarette plug?
No, will use the exact same battery. Wire it to a fuse that powers down when the car is off and you don't have to worry about the car battery

Awesome deals! IMHO, the best cameras are the a119 mini2 for single-channel and a229 plus for dual-channel.

For the A229 Plus, can I wire it to my rear view mirror on a Honda Odyssey or do I need to get the hardwire kit that goes to the fuse box?
You'll need a Dongar adapter if you want to connect into the rearview mirror power. If it's a 2014-2021, get the 7 pin Honda adapter. If 2022+, get the 8 pin adapter. The good thing about the rearview mirror power is that it turns on and off when you turn the car on and off. So your 12v battery won't die because it's connected to your dashcam. The bad news is that you won't be able to use parking mode. If you need parking mode, you'll need the hardwired kit or a USB battery.

Since when is being concerned about privacy and security xenophobic?
I mean, you have heard of Tik Tok, and read how they basically steal every bit of info on your cellular devices. Photos, texts, contact lists, shopping habits, where you go, and when, every little detail of your life, they now have.

Given the info that the parent company, Bytedance has access to, simply by installing apps (note - don't need to use them, just have them installed), I think it's prudent to question all apps we have installed by CCP owned or controlled companies.

Your comment about domestic companies is true, but that is an easy fix. Turn off your location and bluetooth, and they will not be able to track you in store. At least until you check out, lol.
Oh come on, you know it's just a dog whistle. And in this case, not a very good one.

As for your apples and oranges, TikTok is societal poison. But you know what you're agreeing to when you're actively sharing data with the service. And no, simply having it installed isn't enough. Permissions have to be agreed to before the OS will let it do anything.

However, your dash cam app isn't uploading all your videos unknowingly.

The first obvious indicator is that many of them connect via Bluetooth. Do you know how limited Bluetooth's bandwidth is? Transferring videos would take ages.

Secondly, the overhead on that is not cheap. The cost/benefit on storing a bunch of mundane driving videos simply isn't there.

Moreover, that level of paranoia is easily solved by pulling the SD card while you have the app open. No videos means nothing to upload.

Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't value your privacy, but let's stop making lame excuses.

As for domestic companies, you should probably look into that a little deeper. They don't need your phone, they have cameras. The systems they have now can tag you as soon as you enter the store and build a profile on you even if you pay cash.

Probably not a concern if you aren't a shoplifter, but do you see where the hypocrisy starts?

I've had mine (a119) for over a year and it constantly gives false positives on recording events. Keeps recording clips while nothing is happening. I reached out to Viofo and they suggested lowering sensitivity to the minimum setting, but that didn't work at all.
Do any not do that? Or do all brands suck? To be fair, you want to err on the side of recording too much, not too little

I've had other cameras that never gave me false calls, including older Viofo. This was the first one. Maybe the other fellow is right to turn it off completely and just let it record everything...

I read a review on Amazon from an owner of the mini 1 & 2 and they characterized it as a quality of life upgrade, but they were concerned that the video quality was actually worse in some ways including plate clarity and night time. They were hopeful for a firmware update.

Any idea if that's still the case or ? The mini 2 is the only one I'd get because having a cam mounted in the windshield makes you a target in many cities including mine, which gets expensive fast especially if you're in a older premium vehicle with double pane privacy glass and whatnot.

I'd love 4K but there all too big. Idk why they treat these lineups like cell phone lineups where better models get bigger screens.
