Just a heads up. Best Buy will install this (front + back cameras) for $99. The dash cam can be purchased anywhere, it doesn't have to be from Best Buy.

Great camera. Put one in my wife's car.

Got a new model for my car, DroneXC. Dash cam that live streams the video to my cell phone via 5G. So if the alarm goes off, it alerts me and I can pull up live video. The video is also automatically stored in the cloud. So if the entire car is stolen or they steal the dash cam, you'll still have the footage. Tracks the car via GPS too.

Yes, it's more expensive, but dope af.

Ordered the A119. Lowest price ever. Thanks iconian! Just in time as a friend just bought a new car. I've been using 1080P dash cams from Aukey and Yi in the $40-$50 range purchased in 2019 and they've worked flawlessly. Police officer ruled in my favor and wrote up the report favorably for a rear-end collision. I didn't even have a rear dash cam module, but he noticed the impact in the front-facing model I had. In another car, the police officer saw footage of two cars displaying road rage. One of the cars side-swiped my car and the police immediately ruled in my favor and wrote up reckless driving tickets for the two idiots. Every once in a while, check the camera to see that it's working, and reformat the MicroSD card once a month, and you'll be good to go. The dash cam market has caught on its popularity and they have jacked up their prices. A $40-$50 model will work just as well as a $200 model. You're paying for bells and whistles for the $200+ models in my humble opinion. The only reason why I spent more for the A119 is my friend wanted the name brand at the lowest price.

What SD card do you recommend using with Viofo a229 dash cam, or which one are you currently using?

I read a review on Amazon from an owner of the mini 1 & 2 and they characterized it as a quality of life upgrade, but they were concerned that the video quality was actually worse in some ways including plate clarity and night time. They were hopeful for a firmware update.

Any idea if that's still the case or ? The mini 2 is the only one I'd get because having a cam mounted in the windshield makes you a target in many cities including mine, which gets expensive fast especially if you're in a older premium vehicle with double pane privacy glass and whatnot.

I'd love 4K but there all too big. Idk why they treat these lineups like cell phone lineups where better models get bigger screens.
The mini 2 has the new Sony Starvis 2 sensor so I doubt any claims that it's similar to the previous generation. Look at reviews on YT or dashcamtalk.com and it's actually better than the newer 4k cameras for night time videos. It could be related to FW or not using the recommended SD cards for many of the errors people are encountering. I've personally had the mini 2 on my car and a nephew's car with no issues.

Guys, please avoid VIOFO. Complete trash of a company. Videos do not safe all data. Sections will go missing and videos stop recording completely until the dash cam is reset. I have 3 different flagship units from them in the last 2 years and off the bat they had major issues that to this day continue. I missed two accidents on my dash cam I could have helped with. I missed someone pretending to be a cop who ran and it didn't save the video. I had my car stolen and returned and it wasn't recording again. Complete POS company and products. I reached out multiple times for help and their excuses were that they have issues with their cables plugging into the car fuses so you have to use a usb connection or usb battery bank. Are you serious???!! They requested I buy their memory card to try and resolve the issue - did this 3 times and then Amazon the max endurance ones and all the same issue!

Then they tell me for $30 they will exchange the dash cam. NO! All 3 of mine have issues all with non recording and two with their screens messing up (the other has no screen).

Please please from an IT pro to everyone here that is lucky enough to read my message. Do not purchase a VIOFO product. Even free it's not worth sh** if it can't even record your most needed moments.

I have a viofo a119 1440p without GPS from 2017...I think it still works, but I think it sometimes restarts on its own. Is it worth getting the A229 plus at this point?

SanDisk high endurance is not recommended

Looking for suggestions.

Is A229 Plus essentially same as getting two A119 Mini 2 dashcams? Am I correct in assuming A229 Plus comes with two cams but they write to same SD card and uses one port?

Is it better to get two A119 Mini 2 for $10 more compared to A229 Plus? This way they are both independent and no single point of failure? Using up two ports and needing 2 SD cards would be a con I guess.

I think I'm going to go with this instead:
https://www.amazon.com/ROVE-R2-4K...0D6J5B98H/

It comes with the same sensor (Starvis 2) in this thread but it comes with a mount, a free 128GB microSD card, it has a rear camera (its only 1080p).

The problem with just going by "STARVIS 2" is that there are multiple camera sensors that fall under that umbrella term/brand. In the case of that Rove, which is advertised as a 4k camera, the front cam uses a Starvis 2 sensor that is physically incapable of recording at 4k. Not only that, if you record in 4k, it records at 25fps; to get to 30fps, it duplicates a frame every 5 frames and tacks it on to the end. And as you noted, the rear cam is 1080p, but it's a crappy GalaxyCore sensor - I thought we moved on from those ages ago.

This is not the first time Rove has sold a 4k camera that is physically incapable of recording at 4k. That level of deceipt and dishonesty means I'll never consider one of their products, no matter how good it is.

The only cards Viofo recommends (besides their own) are the Sandisk Max Endurance (not High Endurance) and Sandisk Extreme. Haven't tested myself, go to the dashcamtalk forums or reddit for that. I will say that the High Endurance didn't work out in my A129 Plus Duo, though. Also note that the Extreme isn't a high-endurance card.

Ja. The A229 Plus Duo uses two Starvis 2 IMX675 sensors, the same sensor used in the A119 Mini 2.

Da. The cable for the rear cam goes into the main/front cam.

Depends on if you want that level of redundancy. It's not actually redundancy, but I'm not sober enough right now to remember what word I'm looking for.

I strongly suspect the problem here is a simple PEBCAK error, not the SD card.

The problem with viofo is many times it won't record the actual accident. It just have empty footage.

It's can be a hidden file, your SD card isn't compatible, the heat was too strong, etc. Too many consistent failures points for Viofo

VIOFO own memory card. All 3 use their cards, had the cards replaced with more from VIOFO - same issue. Then went for the max endurance ones on Amazon. Same issue. I'm done. Spent close to $1000 between the 3 dash cams and I stand by what I said above. YouTube the issue - it's crazy for such expensive products. Zero peace of mind with them now.
