Isn't there a program that can tell if it's a fake? I don't remember if it's samsung cards only.
I use the free h2testw for advertised capacity.

Same here… Different era than what you mentioned, but I remember spending $75 on a 256mb SD card for my first MP3 player. The good 'ole days.
I think I spent about $250 for a 15 (yes, fifteen) MB CF card for my Windows CE handheld PC back in the 90s. Good times lol

I recently bought the "SAMSUNG EVO Select microSDMemory Card + Adapter, 1TB microSDXC, Up-to 160 MB/s, 4K UHD, UHS-I, C10, U3, V30, A2, for Mobile Phone, Smartphones, Nintendo-Switch, and Tablets (MB-ME1T0SA/AM)" for $10 less, haven't even opened it, should I return it for this? I bought them for upcoming Retroid Pocket 5 to emulate up to Switch and PS2 games, and potentially to use on Switch 2.

I bought this card for the same reason, the Retroid 5. I imagine it should be plenty fast to play games off of. It might be a pain in the ass to initially load games on it though because it is slow for direct data transfer.

Every time I see a larger size for microSDs, I remember when I was a kid and my dad bought a new computer with an 8 GB hard drive and that seemed like so much storage.
And now for less than $100, you can fit 1.5 TB into the size of my thumbnail.
Damn I feel old, I remember having an 8 megabyte HDD as a kid πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Don't buy flash storage "in case you might need it". The price will be lower in 6 months, and even lower than that in a year.

Wait until your current storage is running out, and then buy a card that doubles its capacity.

We don't know what storage upgrades the Nintendo Switch successor will support, but I wouldn't recommend to anyone that they buy something now. It may require faster speeds, or be a different format. If the Switch successor has NVMe storage, a microSD card may only be good for backwards compatible Switch games.

I've got one word for you: tariffs. Frankly, folks, I'd stock up now if I were you, especially if you're in the US.

Wow how do you know if you get a fake from Amazon? Is there any way to tell?
Fair question. Try ValiDrive and h2testw to verify the capacity and speed.
