If you cancel early, you will owe the device balance i.e. 30× months remaining and your 27.77 credit stops.

Two issues.
ATT won't give you the full credit for your TI upfront. It is also divided into 36 installments, applied reach month. So your 800$ credit is split into 36 installments.
Second ATT is not letting you trade in with an upgrade or add a new line to an existing account. Seems TI is only working for a new customer but then you have to select their $75/mth plan.
If they let you trade in upfront, then you are on the hook only for the difference.

Not a very sweet deal anymore. Tech changes in a few months, 36 months is an eternity unless you know for sure.
