At $3 a pack price is pretty good. It's an insane deal if they still have 3 packs of Evolving Skies inside but I seriously doubt it.

Apparently the shrink wrapped variation of this tin does seem to have evolving skies and that's what it looks like it is. At $3 a pack I'm definitely going to take my chances and set an alarm for this deal, even if we all get screwed and there aren't any evolving skies.

I am curious as to what version of this tin it will be because some came with all Brilliant Stars and some came with a variety of packs.

Is this a good deal if my kids want to start playing the game? Or is it best to go with a starter set?

No, for playing the game as a beginner the easiest way is to simply buy one of the Pokemon Battle Academy sets. Amazon sells one as cheap as $15, and it includes everything needed for beginners to get started. That's what my child uses.

As mentioned above, start with the Battle Academy set.
If they are a bit older (closer to teens), maybe try one of the league battle decks and they can go and participate in some leagues and be somewhat competitive.

For me and my 8 year old son, we had never played but he loved collecting the cards. We found it easiest to learn by playing the online game. This gives you the ability to enter your codes from the packs you buy as well. Once we learned to play we did play a few games with the physical cards, but found it more fun to just play online.

Sorry for asking this dumb question but what do great about evolving skies? I mean it no different than the original Pokemon card from 1998 that randomly had halographic Charizard, Blastoise or something
