Since the phone is "On Us with trade" Via 24 monthly bill credits, then the phone won't be paid off until 2 years later (after 24 monthly bill credits). Meaning you can't Unlock the phone until 2 years from the time the phone has been active on the T-Mobile network on the requesting line.

That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.

Yes, you should always factor in the plan cost, and a cheap phone where you dramatically overpay on monthly service is not a good deal. If you want to do that, you probably want a deal at Verizon
While $400 trade in for the 6a is solid, I was hoping to upgrade with nothing or very very little out of pocket
