Unlock eligibility for mobile devices on Postpaid plans
https://www.t-mobile.com/responsi...ock-policy
  • The device must have been active on the T‑Mobile network for at least 40 days on the requesting line.
  • If the device was financed or leased through T‑Mobile then all payments must be satisfied and the device must be paid in full.
  • If the device is associated with a canceled account, then the account balance must be zero.
  • T‑Mobile may request proof of purchase or additional information in its discretion and certain other exceptions may apply.

Since the phone is "On Us with trade" Via 24 monthly bill credits, then the phone won't be paid off until 2 years later (after 24 monthly bill credits). Meaning you can't Unlock the phone until 2 years from the time the phone has been active on the T-Mobile network on the requesting line.

https://www.t-mobile.com/support/...ess-device
  • Log into your T-Mobile Account and choose the Accounts page.
  • Select the line you wish to unlock, then choose Check device unlock status.
  • Under the device image, check if your device is eligible to be unlocked. Review Device Unlock Policy for a list of eligibility requirements

Limit: For those wondering if there is a maximum number of phone lines per account that can be upgraded through this promo, it seems it's 4 per account (as confirmed by T-Mobile rep).

I have a Pixel 6 to trade in that I bought from T-Mobile 3 years ago, so the website already has the IMEI. I went all the way through the checkout process, everything looked good. But then I carefully read the Trade In Terms document. It said the Trade In expires on 11/23/2024 (tomorrow). If you then click on the link in that document that takes you to https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce...d-t-c.html , it says "If you fail to return your Device by the trade-in expiration date, you may be required to pay back any value or credit advanced to you." It also says "...if you sell your Device online or over the phone, we will honor the Offer Price if: (1) your Device is received by us by the Offer Price trade-in expiration date."
That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.
This deal worked on my Simple Choice plan -- via T-App, traded in S21FE, total was the $35 DCC + state tax.
You'll actually be fine with the trade in. Just placed my order and this is verbatim from my confirmation email from T-Mobile:

What's next?
Once that cool new device is in your hands, get started on these important next steps.
Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 Pro ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Google GVU6C Pixel 7 5G 128GB White - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $800.00.

I see.... so if I just buy a clean phone on Swappa with no IMEI that is blacklisted and enter that in and send it in - with no activation or anything.... they will accept it?

If so then that sounds like the clear winner to me over paying $200+ for a screen repair that they may or may not accept....
Yes, just pick up a phone that qualities for the $800 discount that is in working condition with no cracks or water damage and send in that IMEI. I did it with an old iPhone 12 that I got that we never used, was just keeping it around as a potential trade in.

What if my old phone screen is cracked and has a black spot ? Does it explain the condition of the phone required ? Thanks
If your screen has any damage or the phone has any water damage then you won't get the "expanded" trade-in value. My son is using an S10 that he recently dropped and cracked the corner of the screen. I put it through the trade-in evaluator just to check. If it was in perfect condition it would have been worth $800, with a cracked screen it's worth $15.

Will they accept an unlocked or locked ATT/Sprint/Verizon phone for trade-in?
Yes. As long as the phone turns on, doesn't have water or screen damage, and you've turned off the "find my phone" (on iPhones), they'll take it. I used an iPhone 12 from Verizon and am getting full $800.

is it possible to trade in a phone still on bill credits from tmobile for a tmobile trade in deal?
It probably won't let you if you tried since you still owe money on it. If it does let you, you'll probably end up owing the remainder of the cost of the old phone and will lose the rest of the bill credits.

It's possible that you can pay off the remainder of the phone and then send it in. I don't remember when they changed their policy on bill credits and paying off phones early and if things are grandfathered in or if the new policy will override whatever was in place when you got the old phone. Either way I wouldn't chance it.

Are the bill credits tied to the phone or just to the line? If I gave or sold this phone away, what would happen?

Surprised the samsung Galaxy s21 isn't on there but practically everything else is

It lists the S21 right after the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra for $800 TIV at the top of the post.

This. It's the first time in years that a phone upgrade offer, without getting a new line, worked with my grandfathered plan. For example, none of the current iPhone or Samsung offers for free or discounted phone upgrades work with my plan.
Not true, every year for the past 5 years we keep getting promos on top of each other's with grandfathers plan. They were not be the greatest phones but u didn't have to get a line. A32, n200, n300, moto edge 2022 last decemeber was pretty decent.

Between Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL, outside of personal preference towards size, is there any strong reason to go with one versus another, given that they're the same price right now? I like both and want to maximize my future trade in value.

This will be my third Pixel and I've purchased the last 2 used. I've noticed about a $100 price difference between the used models on ebay. The Pixel 7 I'm trading cost me around $200 earlier this year and the Pros were going for 300 at the time. Obviously they have gone down in price since then.

You will be paying $200 more and since it's more expensive you will also pay about $20 more in taxes. I doubt your phone will be worth 200 more than a regular one when you decide to sell it.

But hey, it's all speculation and I'm no market analyst lol

Can somebody please confirm this promo is still valid for today? There were several people yesterday claiming they saw 11/23/24 expiration date in terms and conditions (i didn't see anything). If so, does it mean today is the last day or the deal was only for yesterday? I'm gonna drive around today and buy phones from offer up people and trying to get 4 lines upgraded on my simple choice thru costco. Would hate to spend all that money and this promo is over🥲. Somebody please let me know asap

Have you tried to purchase it? Go into your account and select upgrade. The Pixel 9 should show promotions. Click it and see. It will let you go thru the steps without actually paying.

You say every year but your examples are all from 2022 lol I agree with the other user, none have worked for my lines which came with a heavy discount from Sprint. Everyone will have a different experice with this tho. Either way I'm happy I finally got a promo on a flagship phone!

So why is this a deal? Most phone companies will give you a free phone by committing to staying for 2 years without trade in. I got my S23 by signing 2 year contract without having to trade in a phone a year and a half ago when the S23 was new.

Because it works for existing customers. Because it's $800 of credits over two years. Because I was gonna stay with T-Mobile for two years anyway. Because I only pay like $19 per line on my plan.
