Before you buy this - Moen comes with a lifetime warranty. I've had 3 cartridges go out over 10 years, and for all 3, Moen mailed me replacements for free. Call and see if you can get one that way first.

Moen (and delta faucets and Pfister and likely others) typically offer free replacement of these cartridges under warranty. Only catch is that it takes about 7-10 days to get it shipped to your home

I desperately need to replace the cartridges in my Delta shower faucets but, for the life of me I can't get the faucet handle off. The set screw keeping it on is just too stuck. Tried letting wd40 soak but no go. It's an allen head and I'm worried I will strip it.

Weird coincidence. I am changing this right now. Like I'm literally in the bathtub putting the new one in.

Sure you can get free replacements for the 1222 but I got tired of replacing these as they will eventually warp and leak. I have started swapping to the 1222HD brass ones when a standard plastic 1222 fails. The brass ones don't leak, period. Plus they are silky smooth and much easier to turn.

Is there a clever way of figuring out what your cartridge is without taking it out? (so that you get the replacement ahead of time so you can replace it without any downtime).

Try to get lucky with a youtube video, I guess.

This is what I ran into earlier today - decided I was going to replace the cartridge but didn't want to deal with leaving it open and have the family start poking at it while disassembled. Luckily found someone repairing my exact faucet and they listed the parts.

Take a picture of the faucet handle and ask the company (moen/delta/kohler). They will tell you the name of the set that you have as well as the cartridge that is used

I've had one of these replaced by Moen after several years of use. They rarely fail catastrophically so you should have enough time to wait for a replacement.

As for the product itself, I'm not a fan. It doesn't allow you to adjust the flow of water; it's basically on or off.

how to claim warranty, is receipt required? i dont have it any more
I always save packaging and receipt for any plumbing products, door locks, garbage disposals, etc. Most reputable brands have lifetime or decent warranty, but most consumers just throw away the packaging and receipt and 5 years from now have no idea what brand, model or don't remember where they bought it, so having this stuff will definitely save you money down the line! But then again, most people I know never take advantage of a warranty and just fork out the money for a whole new fixture or whatever the item may be.
For the small percentage of smart consumers, these companies can afford to offer free replacement parts!

We bought our house in 2011, brand new, but already built so we have nothing. Everything is Moen, but we have really hard water. I have had to replace the sink cartridges, some multiple times each, the shower cartridges too. All they asked was when I bought the Moen products, since I don't have the receipts, they just ask when I bought my house. Then send for free every time.
I wish I would have known this. I've replaced about four of these in my house and I cursed Moen every time I had to shell out $50+ for a stupid cartridge. I tried a knockoff brand from Amazon once, but that only lasted about six months.

On the posi temp valve body, there is a hot and cold shut off valve. You can adjust that. It appears that you either have low water pressure or those valves are barely open. I had just change my cartridge today, because it started leaking. It fell apart when I had pulled it out. While I had the handle and trim out, I adjusted the water pressure by opening the valve on the body. It blew the cheap show head apart. Luckily, I had plenty on hand. I am going to buy more of these cartridges. Amazon limits 3. Now I have to get a friend to buy some more for me.

On that page are the Moen valves and the cartridge that it takes. This deal is for the Posi Temp valve body. There are 4 different models of the posi temp valves. Now, you have to determine if yours is one of the four models.

Does Moen replace cartridges that are (most likely) clogged with mineral deposits? Not failing or leaking otherwise, just a gradual drop in pressure over the last 2-3 months. I'm going to soak the cartridge in vinegar overnight one of these days but if I can get a free replacement that works, too.
