Nothing about that glorified netbook is from 2024.

A four year old 2 core / 2 thread Celeron, 4 gb of ram AND eMMC storage? That "performance" is so bad. I doubt that linux could even save it.

Oof. Not even for my worst enemy.

Buy an old Latitude or Thinkpad off ebay for less and experience infinitely more performance.

I would suggest just looking out for 11" MacBook Air's on Facebook marketplace. Neighbor was selling 2014 model for $30. Spec wise it's about equal to this machine but screen is actually higher resolution on the ancient MacBook Air. This Asus machine is the weakest Windows 11 machine I've ever seen. I don't even know how you can run Windows 11 on 4GB of RAM ... the system itself will use 80% of available memory.

I agree this is not a good buy considering for around $50 more, there are plenty of significantly more powerful options available.
That said for those who are on an ultra tight budget, I do have an idea of how well this machine will run. With Windows 10, it'll probably run a max of 5 browser tabs ok if the content isn't too complex. Maybe 1-2 tabs if it is complex. I've never used Windows 11 on something with these kinds of specs, so I can't comment on that. Forget about content creation or anything outside very basic and casual use.
Any Linux desktop environment should run fine with the exception of GNOME, especially if you turn off desktop effects. GNOME feels significantly heavier than other DE's on Linux when running a lower spec device.

People should look up the recent deals on Intel 1215U and 1235U systems for $220 - 299.

Not only are the CPUs 3 - 8x faster, the graphics are 5 - 10x faster, they have twice the RAM and 4x the storage.

It's hard to overstate how slow the N4500 CPU in this machine is. I do not wish the agony of using it for productivity on anyone ...

For anyone wondering why I like this deal. It's to pretty much to move everything from a very old raspberry pi server type setup to a laptop. The new battery and expanded ram are important. A used laptop may be faster but won't have a fresh battery.

For $50 - nib+fs, it would be a steal, otherwise it's a garbage offer on an older 2-core Celeron with soldered, maxed-out 4GB of RAM.
