Nvme+sata should also support older m.2 sata ssd drives. They have the same physical dimensions as Nvme, but only run at sata 6gbps
Orico products can also be bought on AliExpress for less, as long as you don't mind longer delivery time
Can this reliably be used as a 24/7 external drive or is it only designed for temporary plug in storage?

Doesnt look too bad - there is a heatsink. I wonder if drilling a few holes in case would make the thermals better.

Would this work inside the case?

I want to expand my internal memory on my Nvidia shield 2017 with the setup.

Thanks in advance for anyone who answers.

I can get on board with one of these. I use stuff like this all the time. Heatsink is a bonus. The one I use doesn't have one. But I only use it for quick transfers of things. So it doesn't get so hot

Yeah that drive should have no problem fitting into the nvme slot.

I have two of the Orico M.2 (NVMe+SATA) enclosures similar to this. It worked great for both SATA SSD and NVMe SSD. I also used the included heat sink and thermal pad with my M.2 NVMe ssd in my laptop where the space is tight.

The website is shady AF. They combine multiple products and variations on one page. The pictures don't line up with the product. The descriptions are just everything puked into one page, with contradictions and errors and engrish all over. These enclosures come with varying key types and interface types so you are liable to get the wrong one. It doesn't help that half the search results are fake Samsung 990 nvme ssds for 90% off. This website has been terrible for over a decade with little change.

Meh, it's the same problem with Amazon and third-party sellers. Amazon was flooded with fake 9800X3Ds for $200 earlier. I would just recommend sorting by number of orders and reading the reviews, but also the sellers on AliExpress are usually p helpful. Like I ordered some custom VR prescription lenses and they caught that I ordered the wrong type and contacted me. The only thing that bothers me about AliExpress is that sales often show the lowest price for an item even if it's just the case for it or some accessory. Maybe with the tariffs, Amazon will be more price competitive, but, right now, for cheap electronic components (like <$5) it's hard to beat AliExpress.

I bought the 2230 version on AliExpress and it gets too hot and thermal throttles, so I was thinking of doing the same. And that's with a thick enough thermal pad. The included pad was too thin to even make contact with the heatsink. I don't know if this enclosure is the same.
