Maybe you're trying to say it's like the emulation station stuff that's out there - it's still not that either because it's a PC and not like what a pi is at all.
I have one of these and it was not super simple to boot windows and get steam going. I needed to find a secret bios password to unlock and change certain settings around. It is cool and capable machine, but I don't think the process to get it to run windows was for the feint of heart. Make sure to research before you decide to buy it, it could be easier now.
Today I would rather spend $300-$500 on a portable instead and double as a console. This is passable console but nothing noteworthy. Atari should leave hardware altogether. Focus on software. Great for indies game.

Essentially, they support it for ethical reasons, but it's essentially on life support. They will continue to provide updates as needed, but developers who promised to create games for it have not heard back from the company regarding approval. This lack of responsiveness indicates that while the device will receive adequate support, there seems to be a resignation from any further efforts to actively develop it. Production of the device ceased in 2022, something related to contract with manufacturers.
Walmart deal is done but the Atari company website is still $100, with coupon code from the user above worked from this morning. I got it for $85 + tax which ended up $91.XX. I might gift it. Think the handhelds pretty much killed the demand for it as well as its confusing marketing. Personally I love the design and all. But software wise it did not have a distinction of purpose.

The Coolest thing about the VCS is that this isn't really a video game console...it's just a Mini PC with a Dual Core first-gen Ryzen CPU, 8GB of Ram, 32GB of storage, and an open M.2 internally. You, remarkably, actually can add an EGPU. $80 is a killer deal for an HTPC.
