I would either use the money to buy more GPU power at a higher price point or wait until the new Intel Luna Lake 140Vs iGPUs become available. They benchmark around the 3050 4GBs with better battery life, and are right around the corner.

There is nothing around this price point, but settings depend on what games you play and what you define as a decent framerate. As long as you're saying within 1080, you're okay, but anything above that, nope. My son got this laptop when it was $1000, and we had to get him a new computer because he couldn't play on his 1440p monitor with a decent framerate.

It is suited for full HD gaming (1920 x 1080) for the majority of games.
And should be good for another 2-3 years.

Thoughts on this vs an HP Victus with an i5-12450H 8GB/512GB with an RTX 4050 for $520? In my experience Asus quality is usually better than HP but it has been years since I've purchased a laptop.

Looking to buy a laptop for my pop who wants to play a couple specific games - Diablo 4 and Monster Hunter. Would this laptop run those? His current laptop stutters really badly in D4.

No the 4gb vram is unplayable on monster hunter. Definitely get a 4060 minimum for the 8gb VRAM.

Well worth the price. 4050 is nearly 50% more power than this 3050 and 2gb of VRAM more. 6gb isn't perfect but still usable in a lot of titles, 8gb really is the minimum nowadays unfortunately if you want AAA titles.

I play D4 a lot and the specs of this laptop should have no problem handling the D4.
For MH which game did he play? For both the older MH: world, and MH: Stories, the recommended specs is just

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 (VRAM 3GB) or GTX 1650 / AMD Radeon™ RX 480 or RX 570

or

NVIDIA®GeForce® GTX 960 or AMD Radeon RX 560

And this laptop far exceeds the recommended specs.
