The TN screen is bad in that you have to adjust the viewing angle to get it to the sweet spot. I'd buy something with a better screen if I had to use it daily. I keep it docked or use it remotely after a cheap Windows pro update to allow that.
The number pad in the touchpad is kinda gimmicky and I'll probably turn it off.
I upgraded the RAM with an extra 8GB for about $10 ( used from eBay).
The SSD is easily updated but you will need to download drivers during a clean install. ASUS has a page with details I found through google.
It's really hard to find a sub $300 or in this case $200 that hit all the specs. This one is OK.
Maybe a Best Buy or Microcenter open box would make this a better deal.

But don't expect too much. The screen reminds me of the good old Windows XP era. No USB PD charging. The case feels super cheap.
This is a gift for my mom. Strictly used to connect to her TV and play 8TB of movie files.

Just want to re-iterate that the SSD upgrade on this was a pain, mainly because the WiFi drivers was hard to find. I ended up extracting the driver from the original ssd.
Also the WiFi card installed didn't match the drivers one the ASUS support page.
I had to install two WIFI drivers to get the right one. I do remember that they where different brands. The two drivers I saved have directories named VMD_DCH_Intel_Z_V19.5.1.1040Sub1_30940_20241112091521 and WirelessLan_DCH_MediaTek_Z_V3.4.2.1046_38490_20241112091203
There is an option in the bios to have it not install the MyASUS software, but it just didn't install the GUI, but still installed all the underlying services that start up all the time. There where 7 of them, one related to the number pad that might be needed, but I turned them all off and they have stayed off at least for now.
While installing I had to have an additional computer running to download the drivers and a thumbdrive to transfer them to the laptop. The good news is that I am a packrat and I had an ancient and empty 1 GB thumbdrive rady to go.
Unfortunately I did not bookmark the ASUS driver page.
