T-mobile has a hidden plan for 30GB data a month data plan (you get your own sim and need your own device).

I got a cellular modem for $40: https://www.netgear.com/home/mobile-wifi/lte-modems/lm1200/ [netgear.com] and was able to use it with T-mobile's provided sim card.

Call in or use their online chat to inquire about the "Basic Mobile Internet 30GB plan (SOC: MI30TE or MI30TI)". It is $15/mo but you get a $5/mo discount by using autopay.

If you can't repro then you suck. This also provides you with a phone number for the data account and you get access to t-mobile tuesdays despite it only being a data plan Smilie

Besides the hotspot linked here, does anyone have other portable hotspots that they would recommend?

Took 20 minutes in chat. Provided code Mi30ti right away. $10 activation fee for me. Sim should arrive in less than a week.

So the SIM card you just put it in whatever you need to use ?

What speeds are people getting with this Hotspot? Is this sufficient for someone that streams video at home here and there?

Try again with another agent -- I signed up with this at Costco last year, and all I did was provide them the SOC code to pull up this specific plan (they weren't aware of it).

The SOC code is MI30TI
(mobile internet 30gb tax included)

It's meant to be used for a hotspot, but let them know you have one on order. Once you get the sim, you can pop if into any phone or hotspot device.

I just converted it to an esim for my s23u with the help of tforce on Facebook Messenger and the rest is history.

Do they need a credit check?

Thanks for sharing. I took advantage of this and found some important information that might apply to somebody else.
  1. This is a post-paid plan, and not a pre-paid plan.
  2. If you're on a pre-paid plan, and want to switch, it's probably going to be a lot of additional time on the phone.
  3. You can have a maximum of 20 of these plans on your account.
  4. Providing the SOC code, "MI30TI" helps dramatically speed up the process. Just go ahead and provide it as soon as you talk to somebody, and insist only on this plan.
  5. If you're activating more than one line, you're most likely going to have to do one at a time. Each time they'll send you a code to your email.
  6. They are shipping my sims to me via UPS, I believe. It's supposed to take 1-2 business days.
  7. There's a $10 line activation, but the guy I spoke to waived it for me.
  8. I was able to activate 6 lines while I was on the phone with him before he ran into an issue. I'm supposed to call back after I get all 6 sims and then get more.

Slightly OT here, but do they make those Android car stereo systems with a sim card slot?

I have Magenta Max and added two of these 30GB lines last year. Thinking about getting two more.

If I ever want to cancel Magenta Max, but still keep the 30GB lines, will that work? Or should I create a new account with only the 30GB lines?

This plan works perfect with gl-inet mudi portable 4G LTE router. Been using this setup since last year. Great for road trip and working remote outdoor where I don't want to use public WiFi.
Edit: 4G LTE, not 5g

Got the deal through online chat. Took a bit longer as I had to unfreeze my credit. But it was pretty painless.

Rep did asked for IMEI number on the hotspot which I don't have next to me. So if it doesn't work with my hotspot that's on me.
