You can buy the phone without the plan for $300.

My new Pixel 9 is now carrier unlocked and OEM/bootloader unlocked.

The discussion with Mint customer service rep yesterday resulted in a trouble ticket being assigned to the "backend office". I was told I'd "receive an e-mail within 24-48 hours".

Late this morning (less than 24 hours after the ticket was issued) the new phone had a notification that the phone was carrier unlocked.

Under Developer Options the OEM unlocking was immediately selectable--I need this for installing the after-market ROM, but this bootloader unlocking is tied to the carrier unlocking.

Soon thereafter I received another notification: "No service" and "Selected network (Mint) unavailable". That may be due to the fact that I had previously deselected "Automatically select network" in settings. So I selected the "Choose network" option and then selected "Mint" (the only option since I hadn't changed Sims) and a few seconds later I was back in business.

I never received the e-mail from the backend office, but everything seems to be working.

To answer a couple other questions folks have asked: My understanding is that this is a permanent carrier unlocking. I believe I'd told the Mint customer service rep (Kylah) that I was going to be going on international travel (as the excuse for needing it carrier unlocked right away). I had paid for a year of service along with the phone. The fact that the service is already fully paid-for is one of the requirements you need to meet for them to unlock your phone right away. I ordered Tuesday of last week and received it via FedEx on Friday. I had used an eSim for the Mint service on this phone. I'm a brand new customer of Mint, but I don't think that should matter.

If I receive an e-mail from the backend office and it contributes any additional information I'll post a follow-up message.

I'd actually ported-in a burner phone number to this service. So after I load GrapheneOS, I'm going to switch numbers (port-in) so my new phone has my main phone number. Hopefully that will take less time and I'll get less of a run-around doing that.

Good luck!

That's amazing ! I just logged into my account and went to new phones and it showed it for $299!

Below is my order breakdown:

Nice!

Wasn't expecting to upgrade my phone but at this price its a no brainer for a better finger print sensor!

Ty! Just making sure I can buy this and then use this P9 on Verizon after 2-months of the "lock period" - if that's the case, this is a killer deal

Glad I got mine when I did a few weeks ago, Mint had them for $399.

Edit: Nevermind, completely missed comes with 12 months making this a pretty good deal, about half off for subscription.

Any trade in required for that 399 deal?

Nope. Just $399, was like $420 something after taxes and whatnot. I asked support at the time if I could get a deal on a subscription renewal, but they said they couldn't. I pay $15/Mon and have had Mint for a few years now. When I transferred over I was paying AT&T about $60/mon for less data. I recommend them if you are looking to lower your phone bill.

Wow, this is an incredible deal. Sucks they do it literally 3 months after my annual renewal.

Nice deal. Your title is a bit wonky, personally I'd remove the $500 off.

For comparison last year I got the Mint deal for a Pixel 7 Pro with 1 year of 5GB data plan for $389.

Can you get this or some other deal if you don't port in a number? I have a lot of time left on my Tracfone and it keeps me from ever switching to another carrier. But if I could get a new number ...

You can probably get a visible referral to get a new number for $5 then port that over to mint for the deal.

God dammit just did the 579 deal last week. Anyone know if they'll refund the difference?
