Pretty sure that is less than I paid on kick starter... My first laser, it was pretty easy to get started. Burned/engraved a bunch of personalized slate coasters for my customer. The built in filter on the thing is pretty useless. I was able to engrave the slate coasters in my basement with no problems, but anything else was awful. Wood, painted surfaces, ect. make sure you're using extra ventilation or doing it in a garage with plenty of fresh air.

Everything WittyTree8931 said. Only thing to add is this is a diode laser, CO2 lasers can do ​clear acrylic, and fiber lasers can etch metal. There is some overlap in materials, but what they can etch and cut has to do with the wavelength of the laser beam light (and power). And make sure anyone who might be in the area when it is running has eye protection, the laser light can reflect off things and get you even if you aren't looking directly at it. May sound over cautious, but it's your eyes (and family/pets) we're talking about.

There isnt a lot of reviews on this product. Im assuming it didnt sell too well, but it being a Diode laser means itll for certain not cut clear acrylic or etch metals like brass or copper. As for cutting up records to make clocks? It can do this, but its quite dangerous. Vinyl records contain gasoline and other toxic contaminants so you are dealing with corrosive fumes and carcinogens when you do this. So if you decide to do this anyway, you should really invest in a ventilation fume extractor and some kind of enclosure for the laser cutter.

To be fair, a laser cutter should always have proper ventilation to remove carcinogens and microplastics from the air you breathe, but cutting old vinyl records is made more sketchy due to the corrosive fumes produced by burning them.

Pretty sure that is less than I paid on kick starter... My first laser, it was pretty easy to get started. Burned/engraved a bunch of personalized slate coasters for my customer. Are you able to cut acrylic or vinyl records with it?

Checked the Kickstarter prices and this is considerably less than than what people paid for on Kickstarter! The 20W version with package 2 is $365 here and the comparable package was $520 on Kickstarter!

I was completely unaware of the dangers of cutting up old records! I mean, I was generally aware of being cautious of fumes when lasering anything, but didn't know how dangerous cutting old vinyls can be! Thanks for the heads up!

How do you adjust the height of the laser to focus it on the material? Is it easy? Looks like the magnetic shield would get in the way of that.

It's very easy. You pull the shield you mentioned off, and then there is a flip down gage on the side of the laser head and a couple of thumb screws to loosen to adjust the height of the laser head. I don't mind the laser, it was a nice 1st step into them to see what they were about and how they worked and it works fine with lightburn software. If you can find a different one that just has a shield around the laser head itself (pretty much all of them), I think you'd be happier. Their idea of the shielded channel to funnel everything back to the carbon filter really doesn't work, you're not getting any less fumes than any other diode laser. Once I get it in the enclosure that I bought (that has it's own light filters) I will probably just leave the magnetic shield off.

Went back and found my order. I paid $378 for the 10watt with extra risers, honeycomb bed, and air assist plus another $60 for an enclosure. I got the laser last August and the rest of the add-ons didn't show up until last December.

So the 10w package #2 minus the rotary... plus the extra for the enclosure.

Which enclosure did you buy for this? The Elegoo one itself or another brand?

The one right from Elegoo. Because it came several months after I got the machine I still haven't gotten the enclosure set up. Got a bunch of coasters (several dozen) engraved right after I got the machine and haven't done much with it since. I still have some other projects planned and my son wants to cut some EVA foam on it, just haven't made the time.

I saw this one on Amazon. Do you think it will suffice for now? Or having owned the laser engraver, do you see a potential issue getting this enclosure? I mean, it's hard to beat for $37 (black Friday deal), but I'm sure there are drawbacks I'm unable to see at the moment:

Looks like it should fit. I just measured the frame of my laser and it is pretty much dead on 670mm square. So you'd have about an inch per side for breathing room, which you might need for cables. And the 400 tall is more than enough. When I finally do set mine up in the enclosure I'm also going to by a higher power fan and a long exhaust hose to get the fumes far away.

Nice! Thanks for the info. The fan probably won't be strong at all, but for a $37 enclosure, I really can't complain much. It'll do for now as a starter enclosure. I'm new to lasers, so I want to get a feel for them first before I splurge on higher end lasers and accessories

Get some slate coasters off Amazon. I've never spent more than $1 ea for them. I burnt a test pattern on one so I could decide what power level and speed I liked best. You can get a 1 month free trial of lightburn software. I ran it with a laptop hooked directly to the laser thru USB. Have fun.
