I just bought 2 8TB for $169 each because Capital One Shopping app told me I'd get 30% off!
That cashback better show up in the 3 months it takes to get a credit.

Slickdeal lesson here: DO NOT USE CAPITAL ONE SHOPPING app!! It's a scam and they don't guarantee anything!!

The standard Red drive is SMR, which is not designed for all day writing. Red Plus is CMR, which would work, but I bit the bullet and paid extra for Purple since it's specifically designed for NVRs and the constant overwriting.
Thanks for the reply! I saw the purple ones and saw the price tag for those so I was hoping these would also work to save several bucks. I'll just hold off until those go on sale

I've been watching lower capacity WD Red Plus deals for a while waiting for a 12TB deal, these are the only $15/TB prices I've seen in over a year for new Red Plus drives. If I wanted 6 or 8 TB drives this is probably the best option in a long time.

8TB sold out so that says a lot about the price.

I bought a NAS this year so I need some WD red drives for it. Anybody know if buying them on the day of Black Friday will get me the best deal vs any of these pre-black friday deals? Don't want to miss my chance. Not sure what a good price per GB is for these. I was thinking of getting them directly from WD on Black Friday thinking that may be the best deal possible. Thoughts?
To be honest, I think Black Friday is already dead starting some years ago. You might get a sweet deal some time around Black Friday but that's it. So if your are looking for a NAS drive, this would definitely work for you. $15/TB is generally considered "tempting"

I also bought for $169 from BestBuy. But they are selling 10TB for the same price after two days I bought

I'm waiting for a WD Purple to go on sale for my frigate NVR and add it as an external storage with enclosure to store recordings. I know this says NAS but what exactly is the difference?

Check the datasheet. 10TB is a lot hotter and louder. Things above 10TB started to become 7200rpm

ty for that. I've kinda noticed it being disappointing for years now too, but seem to always have my hopes up this year will be better. I did pull the trigger for 3 6TBs before they sold out. I only needed 3 4TBs but this price was better than the ones I was tracking for 4TBs so I just did it. Glad I did now that they sold out Smilie
