I have had several of these shear apart in the past. It is better to use SPAX engineered bolts that don't require predrilling.

Don't know what I'm going to do with 50 3.6" lag bolts. But I know I'll never have to buy 3.6" lag bolts again for the rest of my life.

These are weak. The heads do shear off with a certain amount of torque applied. Not always, but enough to frustrate. The metal they have been using the last 7+ years has been a joke. I've tried a lot of different brands. All of them are using cheaper metal. Look for the smaller lots with high grade labeling. You'll pay more, but will save you. Besides you won't be using a ton of these on a project. If you are using for a critical project, that specific broken off piece isn't going to come back out. Anything requiring a lag bolt should be extremely strong and not shear off.
