Why are so many people putting the dollar sign after the number?

What is going on? I can maybe understand seeing it on random Twitter posts or something, but on Slickdeals? Literally every single thread has a dollar sign somewhere in the first post and I still see some people putting the dollar sign after the number when posting. Has there been a sea change with punctuation in the last five years that I don't know about?

It's Un-American! Obviously they ain't from around here & use the metric system & watch that sissified soccer. Sure it's a cute sport, the way the bounce balls off their heads, but still!
