it does work plug and play if ur tv have usb 3.0. I would recommend getting the cheaper 1Gbps because i had both the 2.5gbps and 1gbps and the 1gbps i was able to get 400Mbps but the 2.5gbps i was only getting 200..
In for one of the gig ethernet to usb-c. I've got a couple laptops that lack ethernet ports. I have a usb-a adapter, but I have to sacrifice my logitech mouse to plug that one in. No longer!

It depends, I got a 1gbps to USB adapter and it didn't work on my LG TV C3 USB ports.

It has nothing to do with USB 3.0 and everything to do with whether your TV's firmware has a driver for the Realtek Ethernet controller inside this device. Same with streaming devices.
A secondary issue is what speed the connection can sustain for 100Mb or 1Gb or 2.5Gb devices. My experience is that it is all over the map.
