What's the difference from these Tapo Matter platform versus the Kasa platform? Is the Matter worth the extra?

They still work manually in those edge cases doomer.
But they won't work in a power outage. /s

These matter enabled switches are cheaper than non-Matter Kasa Dimmer switches available today (Both Tapo and Kasa are owned by TP-link)

Both brand devices can be managed seamlessly in 3.0 or higher.

Will these work with the Kasa app or will they need the Tapo app to be installed to set up/control them?

Kasa app cannot setup or control Tapo devices, whereas Tapo app can setup and control both, Kasa and Tapo. The Tapo app will import all your Kasa devices.

Anyone know if these work with Home Assistant?
It seems like they might. There is a Tapo integration https://www.home-assistant.io/int...plink_tapo

Noyou will want something that is labeled 3 way. https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Sw...B07724HNTXYes. I have multiple panels of 3 in our bedrooms and have replaced one with these in them all.
Do they need a companion switch like the Lutron stuff or will they work with a dumb switch in a three way?

If you have three wires in your electrical box (black, white and bare copper wire for a ground) then you are good to go. I have these switches and I love them. I use them all the time and over the past 6 years they have never failed to work for me. I tell Alexia to turn them on and off, set to 5% to 100% brightness and turn on and off at a set time. I paid more for these switches than this.
Do you know if these work without a ground wire?

Q: QuestionWhat does work with knob and tube wiring? 100-year-old home with mostly upgraded wiring, but I believe lighting wiring is still original K&T.

A:Answer Hi! The Tapo TS25 Smart Wi-Fi Light Dimmer Switch with Matter requires Neutral, Line, and Load wires for installation and use.

TS25 is not Best Buy specific model as you can see at TP-link site below.

https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-n...rt-switch/

I also confused while back ago with those similar TS25, S505D, etc look same but different model #.
But I found TS25 is little bit better than S505D with Matter with an extra flexibility.

S500D seems to be an older model without Matter.
https://www.tp-link.com/us/compar...34%2C79714

It looks like TS25 is newer and latest model.

now the webpage says S505D is also matter certified. Done with software update?
https://www.tp-link.com/us/compar...34%2C66200

almost identical?
Where did you find the "TS25 is little bit better than S505D with Matter with an extra flexibility"? I can't find any difference at all on their comparison page or anywhere else on the internet. Can you provide some information on what is better about the TS25 and what's more flexible?
