You don't know what you're talking about. Google AirPod static/crackling. They are notorious for that. Mine failed after three years. Will not last decades.

Guys you don't gotta go to any Apple Store or repair shop to get your AirPods (or most Apple products for that matter) replaced under AppleCare+

Just call AppleCare support (1-800-275-2273) and Apple will quickly ship you a new pair and they include a box for you to send the defective/broken/battery-degraded ones to them. It's that simple. I've done it many times with iPhones and AirPods over the years.

Best to do it right before your AppleCare+ plan expires, and claim battery is poor, so that way you get a fresh pair + charging case with brand new batteries right before the 2-year AppleCare+ plan expires.

The batteries in these things are tiny, and they're the first (and most likely) things to go to shit after a couple years of moderate-heavy use. With AppleCare+, you're basically guaranteed these are gonna last you 4-5 years between the original buds and the last-second AppleCare+ replacements. It's for this reason that I highly recommend getting AppleCare+ for AirPods specifically. Other Apple products aren't as necessary.

You're welcome.

Credit card warranties are very hit or miss, and usually a miss because they make it very hard to claim warranty like no other. Not saying all claims are like that but a quick search online shows you just that. Only credit card warranty that is phenomenal is AMEX warranty, but all others use credit cards use Asurion or similar "not so great" warranty companies, and they require a lot of documentation, proof of unrepairability, and jumping through hoops even for low dollar items. You can make it work of course, but it's not for everyone.
I've used visa's twice for my Apple Watch. All I had to do is submit the cost of the repair by getting a quote from Apple, provide my receipt and proof of the 1 year warranty from Apple by going on Apple's website. A few days later I had a link to deposit the money for the repair to my bank account. Pretty simple.

Is there a source for this? Costco refused my return when I brought in defective AirPods about a year after the purchase.
Source is myself that has returned AirPods past the 90 days back to Costco (although they were unopened, not sure if that made a difference). Another source is straight from the Costco return policy. Earphones and headphones are not in the exclusion list.

You have to go to a physical store? The closest for me is about 45 mins away. Thanks for the help.
You can do express replacement with AppleCare for free. They will ship you a pair and put a $250 hold on a credit card. You have 10 days to get the broken ones back to Apple.

Think you can also go to an Apple approved service location like Best Buy, etc. Can use Apple's website to find locations close to you.
Thank you.

I took my airpods 2 pro lightening into an apple store before I bought a new USBC set to see the battery status and the guy said "There is no way to test battery level, they test good or bad." Said they tested good. I wanted to have an actual % for the new buyer since I was maybe getting an hour less of playback. They were purchased without apple care and were out of warranty so I just passed the info on to the new buyer.

I wonder what happens if you pull the trick you mention, call apple and tell them battery life is "bad" at the 2 year mark and they receive them and they test good. Never had an issue?

It's not really a "trick". Apple has no way to test or check the batteries of your AirPods remotely (and even if they do, they still won't go against your word of bad battery life in my experience)

If you have an AppleCare+ warranty for your AirPods, they will send you a new pair of AirPods and charging case if you call them and claim the battery in your AirPods and charging case are shot and don't hold a charge worth a damn anymore.

I've done this twice for 2 sets of AirPods I've owned. Don't go to an Apple Store, call 1-800-275-2273.

You don't need AppleCare when buying from Costco, already get a great warranty
I do not believe that is the case, Apple products, they do not go past the 30 or 60 day return period, after that it is Apple warranty

Wow, talk about trashy behavior. I can't imagine being both poor enough and morally bankrupt enough to engage in that kind of returns fraud.

It's literally not returns fraud at all. It's a part of AppleCare+ warranty that you *pay* $29 for.

Your AirPods batteries will be less than 80% of their capacity after 2 years of heavy use, maybe worse - and the warranty covers that.

Returns fraud is buying a new product and returning your old, used product of the same model.

Nice attempt at trying to sound like the smart guy in the room, though.

I think Amazon/Target/Walmart deal is much better because you can buy AppleCare+ after 60 days meaning you are getting 2 extra months coverage.

4 pack Airtags are $72.99. If you are in the market for couple of AirPods and AirTag, wait till tomorrow to get $50 off $400, making it a much more better deal.

So we need to pay $29 for the replacements?

You pay $29 for AppleCare+ up front.

You can buy it when you buy the AirPods, or you can buy it within 60 days after purchasing the AirPods.

In the case of Costco, they bundle AppleCare+ with the AirPods and include it in their price.
