Open-box ROG Ally is about the same price at Best Buy. I wasn't a fan of the Deck's materials quality, size, or (especially) the LCD screen. Now that Bazzite is being developed for the Ally, I'd almost argue it's the better investment at this point in the game.

That said, the Deck does have a massive and active community, so any problem you have will be documented somewhere else. Valve also partneredwith iFixIt and repair parts are readily available.

And then when the 2 comes out, you'll say something else is weak and how you can't wait for the 3. Repeat.

Support is key, otherwise it just turns into a paperweight over time.

The only thing I would say is needed and I highly recommend is thumbstick grips. The thumbsticks do not have good grip, and I have big hands. I tried the Jsaux ones that have a honeycomb pattern and I developed a pain in my finger. I opted for some Skull & Co ones, and while my finger pain went away, they aren't capacitive. I don't use the feature anyways so it doesn't bother me. But any grips will do.

The rest of this is optional IMO:

I highly recommend the Jsaux modcase if you want a hard case for the deck. I don't have to take thumbstick caps off either, it has space for them. The deck comes with a case already, but I wanted a hard cover and the modcase fit the bill. Plus it doubles as a bigger grip, because again, big hands.

If you use the trackpad a lot, I'd recommend some track pad stickers. Just to keep the oils and wear down. Easier to replace the sticker than the entire pad. Plus it doubles as some personal customization. I went with carbon fiber ones.

Silicone rings on thumbstick. I use these on every controller I own except for ones with metal shafts. Been bit too many times by plastic joystick shaft erosion. Never even looked into if the steam deck has this issue, but I use them anyways.

I've never been big on back buttons because of how I position my hands on controllers. If you're in the same boat, I recommend the PlayVital back button enhancement set. But really any will do. Just makes it easier for me to adapt to using it.

Again, in my own opinion, the only thing you need is thumbstick grips. The rest is entirely optional and you can set it up however you like for your comfort.

Oh, and if you want more storage, I'd start with a big SD card. If that's still not enough, then you'll have to upgrade the NVMe.

Is this deal still live? I bought one yesterday around 8am ET and then got an email several hours later saying that my purchase was being refunded with no explanation. It still lets you add to cart on the website, but then a high volume error message pops up when you go to check out.

I don't personally customize mine, though I do recommend getting a case if you ever plan on putting it in a backpack or suitcase.

I've spent a ton of time on Hades, Balatro, Vampire Survivors, Skywalker Saga, and Core Keeper. The Hex really surprised me and was the first game I completed on the Deck.

I've added Chrome, Plex, and X Box Game Pass from the desktop. There are plenty of tutorials if you search for them.

I was torturing myself with this deal, but finally decided to pull the trigger. The price it is really good, considering that the 64gb was on sale for like 296.00, I think... And all the extras on this version make it even juicier.

I'm going to hold off on the category until the next-gen Allys and Lenovos drop after CES and we get a look at the performance benchmarks. Usually, I regret 1.0 purchases and all of these, even the exceptionally engineered Steam Deck, feel very 1.0-ish.

Depending on whether there are fire sales, prices may come down enough to get me to get something to play around with.

Bought. I've been on ebay a week looking for a used deck and the prices are 300-350 for a 512gb.
336+tax is a steal for a brand new item. I'm a very casual gamer.

Someone I know offered their 1tb Legion Go with extra accessories for $400. Which is better? Legion Go or this Steam Deck?

Something to consider. In my use case I was excited to buy the OLED. Everything I heard about it compared to the LCD to me at the time was well worth the extra cost. This was when the 512gb model was not on sale so the difference in price was worth the upgrade to OLED.
After setting up the OLED and trying out a random game, I notice my eyes were getting tired and then started to hurt so I stopped thinking that maybe I had too much caffeine. I went about my day using my phone . Later that night I thought it would be a great idea to plop down on the couch and try out the OLED again. Boom same results as earlier that day. I hopped on Google and came across this Reddit post. After going down that rabbit hole I realized not all OLED are the same. The OLED on steam decks aren't the same as OLED on the Nintendo switch. I have a Nintendo switch and I don't have the same issue as I do with steam deck OLED.
I realize I have issues with PWM (pulse width modulation). I gave the OLED a try for 12 days with the same results, so I initiated a return on the 13th day. I figured I maybe the steam deck isn't for me. At that time I couldn't justify spending the small difference on the LCD. Then when the Autumn sale came around and the price dropped for the LCD model, I felt it was worth the purchase. It shipped this morning so I'm hoping to have it in my hands next week. I don't plan on taking my handhelds out. They'll always be at home so I'm not worried about battery life. I just like the option too move around and game where I want and home.
I'm hoping I don't have the same issue with the LCD version but it seems like I might be ok. Worst comes to worst I'll just return it like I did for the OLED .

Thanks for the link. I already purchased the steam deck yesterday without this coupon.
