If you purchased a Netgear make sure to install DD-WRT on it. So, many bugs that allow users to break into your local area network.

I don't think this router is supported by DD-WRT. https://forum.openwrt.org/t/can-i...orm=MG0AV3

OpenWRT should be compatible though

I bought the XR500, which was the first Netgear with DumaOS, when it first released. I used it for years, but had constant problems. My network would just go down for 30 seconds-10 minutes multiple times a day. I would sometimes have to go reboot the router to get it to come back online. I am pretty sure it was an issue with DHCP. I got sick of dealing with it and picked up an MSI Radix from Newegg on a crazy sale for like $60 a few months back. I was really just planning on using the MSI as a stop gap until I found what I really wanted, but it has been rock solid stable. I plan to just keep the MSI now because I have not had a single issue. I don't really use to many features but I have a lot of devices connected to it. I would personally not recommend any Netgear routers. The XR500 was the second one I have had that were nothing but trouble. I really wish Linksys were the major player they once were. Their routers were rock solid stable 10-15 years ago.

I bought this at the same price last Sunday off Amazon but haven't gotten to set it up yet. Hoping it works well in my house

I don't think so. Was looking into this a few months back and most newer routers aren't supported due to lack of Broadcom chip drivers. This router isn't listed on the OpenWRT site as a compatible model. Unfortunately, unless something big changes, OpenWRT et al are not going to be an option for most newer hardware. And I won't use a Netgear router without it, too many privacy and security issues with their own firmware.
