I have a Milwaukee 1/2 inch impact, which is big and heavy, and a Milwaukee 12V 3/8" impact driver, which is very small and light.
The purpose of these tools is to help you work fast. When I want to pull a tire, loosen a touch brake rotor bolt. or loosen suspension bolts, the 1/2 inch is the only tool. The 3/8", for me, is a pain cause a lot of times it won't loosen the bolt and then I have to go get the 1/2" tool I should have grabbed in the first place.
But then for smaller bolts, like a bunch of bolts holding a valve cover or some assembly, the little 12V impact driver is lighter, smaller, and has plenty of torque. So I almost never find myself using the 3/8" tool. Maybe if you work on cars all day long, every day, the little impact driver isn't tough enough and it will just break. Otherwise, there are more useful power tools for working on cars.

Impact wrench. I assume we were both talking wrench (not driver) because of 1/2 and 3/8 size. Your normal impact driver is 1/4
that's an outdated impact. even the new M12 stubby 3/8" is way more powerful while being half the size. you can typically get it for around $120. that means you're paying $200 for those 3 batteries which, again, are not worth it with all the forge sales going on.

When are high output considered old batteries?
