Isn't this a first gen paddle? It's not even thermoformed.

Indeed. It's still a great paddle and for the sale price, it's a good deal. Plenty of sales going on for newer tech paddles. Check John Kew's site for a list.

Why is this a good deal if it's gen1? There's way better options that are cheaper now

Go to a public court. You'll see all types of paddles. Gen 1, 2 & 3. There can be arguments made that Gen 1 is still better than Gen 2. Depends on the actual paddle and player. Go look at John Kew's site for test stats.

Of course you will see all types of paddles. Pickleball paddle isn't something you are going to upgrade every year like a phone. People who bought (and spend big money) on gen 1 paddles a while back aren't just going to throw it away. That doesn't mean you would voluntarily choose a gen 1 for the same money as later tech paddles. This is overpriced, going only by the name and its marketing. I wouldn't touch this unless it was at least 40-50% off. Plus, Joola paddles wear out pretty quick and has a horrible warranty (compared to other big name brands like Selkirk).

If you're playing regularly, paddles only last 6-9 months on average. This is close to that 40% off price point which makes it good deal for a proven paddle.

But I see you also crapped on 11six24 paddles, which have great reviews from real players as well as YouTube reviewers, especially the Monarch Jelly Bean. There are so many brands out there. I personally would tell any new player to not invest in a $250 Selkirk or whatever until they know they'll continue playing, but also don't buy a POS $30 paddle from Target.

Again 11six24 is heavily shilled. Those yt videos are all sponsored. I do agree with your last statement, hence why I would not recommend getting this paddle for 157. If you are a pro, you are going to want newer better tech than this. If you are a beginner, you shouldn't be spending this much, not even close.
