The alternative is to get an aftermarket controller with hall effect sensors that don't make physical contact, though I have not tried them myself the feedback sensation is often described as different.
Regarding stick drift: I currently have four of these Core controllers. Two of them have at least 1,000 hours on them, one probably has a few hundred, and one get used daily, but not for long stretches. Only one has presented any form of drift, and it was only in a couple sessions in one specific game. It's been used many times since without a reoccurrence.
Yes, stick drift on all controllers is definitely a thing/risk, but I think it tends to get overblown into something like "it happens to all controllers within a year" in online discussions when my experiences since 2014 have not supported that.
