The DiscoverIt card finally has value this quarter for those that also have Target and Prime 5% cards. (Amazon & Target are Q4 5% categories.)

Edit: I did a chat on discover.com and asked if I could get a retention offer since I was considering cancelling and immediately got offered a bonus 3% extra Cashback for three months effective the next day. Worth a shot to get 8% CB with your Discover card instead of 5!

No. Target GCs do not get a 5% discount using the Red Card. But Discover Card will payback 5% for Target purchases this quarter.

Many of yall don't read the fine print.
  • Person saying only brick and mortar Target store...when terms and condition with Discover say "You activated to earn 5% Cashback Bonus...Target purchases include those made in-store at Target, Target.com, or through the Target app"
  • People asking if you get 5% back using Red Card...
  • Using T gift card to buy another T gift card...

Make sure you know the exact $ amount you want, because once you place the order, you cannot place another one with the discount, because it's already been used.

I wasn't sure how much shopping I will do at Target, so I only bought a moderate amount, in low denominations in case I want to use RedCard in conjunction to easily meet free-shipping threshold.

E-mail delivery came within 5 minutes, and I auto-applied them to my account.

YMMV but better value if you use Chase freedom (paypal) for the extra 5% since those points could be worth 2x per cent (eg, Hyatt transfers).

I'd use PayPal to pay something else, even tax. Discover only has amazon and target so there are not many choices to spend Discover

I do this every year and just did it today at a brick and mortar Target. This year looks like they do something different where the cashier has a roll of "scratch off" stickers. The cashier peels off a scratch off sticker and puts it on the back of the GC, then scans the GC UPC code and also the scratch off sticker UPC code and then enters in the $ amount of the GC. She said it's to combat fraud. Just thought it's worth noting for those who buy physical cards in person.

This has been the new gift card policy for like 1-2 months. It is to combat fraud and gift card skimming.
