This one top step is 26" from the floor and the 2 steps before the top have a depth of 5" so you can stand reasonably stably on all 3 steps. I am 5' 8" and can reach about 9' up standing on the stop step. I also got from HD the Cosco 3 step lite aluminum stepladder. It is double the price, lighter than this gorilla ladder. The top step is 33.5" off the floor and the 2 steps before the top have a depth of 3" so it is less stable standing on these intermediate steps. I can reach to the top of a 10' ceiling but you need something to brace yourself with like a wall when you are at the top. It is meant to be used mainly on the top step, where the platform is 14" deep vs 10" on the gorilla. So unless you really need to reach 10', or plan on standing on the top step a lot, I would recommend the gorilla. Hope this is helpful, the info on the HD site is not

edit: there is a 3rd option. At Costco today, they are selling the Cosco 3 step ladder. It is aluminum steps w//steel tubing so it is about the same weight as the gorilla. $24, so just $4 more than the Gorilla. Top step is 29". The 2 steps before the top step is 7" deep, so stable standing on these steps. Reach is about the same as the Gorllla. Tradeoff is that this Cosco is not quite as stable as the Gorilla because the steps are aluminum vs steel on the Gorilla. The Gorilla is all steel, so doesnt flex as much and feels more stable because it is slightly heavier. So really it is up to you which one is better for you, the $20 Gorilla or the $24 cosco, BTW, the 2 weigh exactly 11 pounds each. The taller Cosco weighs 8 pounds.

Can someone tell me how tall the top step is? I need the top step to be 3 feet, but it looks like it's 2 from the pictures.

FYI mine shipped without any box through ups. Arrived dented and scratched.
