Guess that weird mid week 3 days sale of $1099 they had a while back was the cheapest this is gonna be. Idk if I should keep waiting or what. Really thought it would be $999 today like in previous years.

I have been looking at this laptop for a while now, mainly for work. I run an electronic medical record (EPIC) in a browser so not sure what resources that uses. I think it's a virtual machine? Also, I work in the psychiatric emergency department, intermittently patients will attempt to charge at me as I am evaluating them. Occasionally, before officers can intervene, they may smack the laptop, I am curious if this would be able to sustain a drop? For gaming I play World of Warcraft, but at work, downtime permitting, it is mainly Yu-gi-Oh Master Duel against the A.I.
Yes, work does provide laptops, but often it is a scramble to find a working laptop during shift change, or when you find one it is super janky and barely held together or missing buttons.
I am a bit at a loss about what type of computer I am looking for so any help would be appreciated, or am I being unrealistic? Thank you to whoever reads this!

Dude, you need a ruggidized dell latitude/precision or panasonic toughbook. And no, those will not game very well.

Thank you for your reply and I really appreciate your time. A part of me knew of the limitations and that I would need likely need to sacrifice something (rigidity versus gaming). Thank you for the recommendations, I'll take a look into them.

Im not fully aware of your work situation but using a personal laptop to enter patient data is a big issue for data security. No personal machines should be allowed to touch that data in any way.

I think the best thing is to put the job first. A Toughbook will help although I echo other comments about HIPA security. You would be better off with a "Legion Go" device and use it for gaming only during slow periods.

Yea...EPIC is accessed at home by many physicians on their personal machines. This is how a lot of physicians finish their charting for the week. So this is not a new or non-standard thing. The data isnt stored on their machine (you remote into the server and enter data linked to the server) the caution that must be taken is making sure others cant look over your shoulder to see patients data on the screen or that your hand written documents arent able to be read.

To the OP @HilariousApple307 , I have a G14 2023 model:

I added a second 16GB SODIMM memory stick and swapped the hard drive for 2 TB. (an additional $215 from bestbuy), this was March 0f 2024. I love the machine for gaming and dont have any issues with it. My wife has accessed EPIC on it and that ran smoothly didnt hear her complain (always better to have a much bigger screen but it is useable).

This reply is probably too ate but ...yeah I think its a great machine. No idea about robustness....I have 3 boys that use it (12, 10, 8) but none have dropped it yet.
