For Crossfire. Not diamondback.

Diamondback is worth the extra $36
In general I think 8x are a better fit for most people since what you gain in a larger object you generally lose due to additional bounce when handheld. You also generally lose a pretty big chunk of field-of-view so it's harder to locate some targets. With that caveat, I'll say that this is a great deal. The Diamondback is right in the sweet spot where you get very good optics before the price starts jumping up for diminishing returns.
Obviously a fair bit pricier, but Cabela's/Bass Pro has the Vortex Viper 10x42 binoculars for $300. They are the next tier up in quality from the Diamondback. Both are good, but trying then out instore I was surprised to be able to tell a significant difference and opted for the Vipers.

What is their purpose? I'm not being facetious. Genuinely trying to see if this would make a good christmas gift.
I mainly use mine for hunting and scouting for hunting

Appreciate the response. I know my father has a cheaper pair of binoculars, but not sure what he uses/used them for. He doesn't hunt anymore, so maybe this isn't such a good gift for him.

I use mine for hunting. They're great quality and durable. I buy a lot of Vortex stuff because their warranty is awesome - basically they cover anything, even breakage.

These seem to get marketed mainly to outdoorsy activities, so that's what I'd say their intended use is.

If a person isn't using this for hunting, I would surmise the next activities are either bird (or any animal really) watching or girl-watching.

These are 10x, do you have a recommendation at this price point for something 8x?

I followed the link in this deal and ended up buying the diamondback HD 8x32 for $150. Also considered 8x42 for $170, but I read a lot of recommendations that the 32 is almost as bright with little wider FOV and little bit lighter weight. Not quite as stellar deal as the 10x42 but still well under $200 price everywhere else. (Note: also $150 currently at Adorama but backordered until 2/25)

I was able to see Saturn's rings a few years ago with mine. Not really their purpose though.
Thank you! Looking at stars, planets and nebulas are exactly the main purpose I want these. Figure $136 for a pair of quality optics binoculars makes much sense than a $1,000 on a telescope that might just end up collecting dust. Atleast with the bino's I can look at the stars.. and also use them for other things like sporting events, hiking and touring.

Have these exact ones for about 6 months for birding. Couldn't be more happy with them. First time with nice binoculars, but I'm blown away by the image quality. I even show them to friends that come over and they're so impressed they'll look at random things for 10 minutes. They feel high quality as well. Comes with a nice harness & pouch, as well as an actually good quality neck strap. For birding specifically, it seems like 8x42 is the most recommended specs, but I have no problem with the 10x zoom. It's easy to stabilize unless you're in a vehicle, or facing very heavy winds.

I'm glad you posted this. Just saw it while at bass pro and tested these against the Diamondbacks and ended up going with the Vipers. They felt a lot more solid and I agree while both are impressive the difference in clarity was noticable in the store.

For anyone considering the Cabela's version, please realize these are not HD and do not come with the Glasspak harness, which is $60 at Cabela's and $30 at Sportsman's Warehouse.

I researched these earlier this year before buying the Viper HD model with Glasspak from Focus Camera via eBay, who is an authorized dealer, and have been very happy with them:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/28534142...BM3I2J5vBk

This review of the Cabela's/Bass Pro model articulates it best:

"These are not as good as the newer post 2018 Viper HD sold in most authorized Vortex retailers. These are a special edition Viper HD set of binoculars only sold at Bass Pro Shops/Cabella's and are made with inferior components to both the newer Viper HD and the old pre 2018 model made in Japan. These are made in Phillipines and have a lower image quality than both the Japan made pre 2018 model and the newer post 2018 model sold at retail for around $500. I should have known better and realised these $299 Bass Pro Shop exclusive pair were inferior, you get what you pay for in life and this is a prime example. These are in my opinion worse image quality to the Diamnondback HD 10×42 which my wife owns. I have also purchased the newer Viper HD and can tell you for 100% certainty the glass optics are not as good on these exclusive set. There is more chromatic aberration, the colors are muted and not as vivid, and the edges of the image are not as Clear. It is almost like they took the original pre 2018 Viper HDs that were made in Japan and cheapened them out even more using worse components. I have a friend with the old Viper HD (pre 2018 made in Japan) and they have a much better image quality. Stay away from these and go with the newer HD if you are looking for quality. If you are shopping by price point just buy the Diamondback HD they are equal or better quality than these."

Ah that's a common mix up. This is the HD variant with the upgraded multi coating.

The version you linked was the older version from a few years back and is not labeled HD.
How much of a difference are we talking about here? Sportsman warehouse has 10% welcome coupon that applies and I can get a discount on a GC from Amazon. Mainly using for nature watching out my window.

I think it's that's it's a significant enough improvement. They not only upgraded the coatings, but they used a different glass for the prisms. There are plenty of reviews online as well comparing the difference between the original and HD. If you are able to I would compare them both in person.

Would these be good for viewing planets and things? Like when a comet is passing the Earth and they say it can be seen with binoculars, would these be a good fit for that? Thanks!
Not ideal. I'd say think about what you will use the optics for the most. If for sky watching, I'd get a tripod and something stronger than these 10x42. I have a telescope dedicated to that. These are better for terrestrial viewing. That said, you'll see the moons craters just fine, but for the moons of Jupiter or Saturns rings, you'll enjoy it much more through a proper telescope (I dont think you'll properly see those with this, or be able to track well or be very stable)
