Left Blue Iris for Scrypted six months ago and holy smokes do I not miss the abysmal mess of a program that is Blue Iris.
I hadn't heard of Scrypted before. I'm just beginning my setup of blue iris in a proxmox vm. What makes you like scrypted instead?

Looking it up, it seems that scrypted costs $10/year/camera. That's more than it's worth for me, if I want to have several cameras locally. I'll plan to store recordings on a local nas, as I'd prefer to avoid recurring subscription fees when possible.
Tell me more.

I have 8 4k (wide angled/double lens) cameras locally, which is like having 16 feeds with a dedicated PC that is only consuming 37 watts recording them all to WD purples.

The remote viewing is horrible and my FPS is only 3-5, so whenever I want to see something in 4k, I have to go into my server closet and fire up the monitors in there.

Are you running scrypted on a dedicated PC? How is that AI? False detections? I have a bunch of trees and in the summer shadows give out a ton of false hits.

Edit: Ahh, scrypted is a per camera annual license, f that.

Frigate NVR or Shinobi, both surpasses object detection than BI

This guy specializes in this stuff and had a pretty bad review of Frigate in this comparison. Maybe Frigate got better in the past two years but I think I'll stick with BI for now.

Yes, Coral just makes it faster and more efficient. It can also run object detection using your CPU or GPU. So you can try out Frigate on any computer(even a Raspberry Pi), and add a Coral NPU if you like it. Coral NPUs are available in a variety of form factors, starting at $25: https://coral.ai/products/

Blue Iris released update version 5.9.9.9 last week. v6 seems like it must be right around the corner. I was tempted, but not really interested if v5's lifecycle is almost over.
I have never purchased from Amcrest, but normal purchase of the full version allows for 1 year of any major or minor updates/upgrades (blueirissoftware.com)

woah, what? been using bi for maybe 7 years -- have always been on the lookout for a decent replacement. 22 cameras, local storage, BI running on bare metal xeon 48-core system.think Scrypted is a viable replacement?
I think you should get that Xeon space heater replaced first

Same here. Got a free Dell R720 at work and put in two of the low power CPU's (forget what the model is) for a few bucks off ebay and 2 8tb's in RAID-0. No problems with 10 cameras and only pulls around 130 watts. Not ideal but "works".
Not really same, 48 core Xeon pulls 130w only when unplugged Big Grin More like 350w idle

I've been using BI for at least 8 years. "Abysmal mess"? It's been rock solid for me.....

Same. BlueIris has been a joy to use compared to other NVRs I've messed with. No real problems and any problems I did have were addressed by support pretty quickly.

Replacing it with more modern tech would make you money back in energy costs alone until the new hardware paid for itself. We're talking dropping from like 160w idle to 20w idle, you drop from $701.80/yr to run the Xenon (assuming at idle wattage; actual usage will most likely be higher obv), to $87.66 if you moved to a Core i3-1200 @ 20w idle.
That's saving $600+/yr, the upgraded equipment costs would most likely pay for themselves within the first year or two.
You really have to do the math on power cost vs cost of equipment. I've run dual Xeon processors and they idle at way lower than 160W. However, running Blue Iris, you aren't idling. I've also done a lot of testing with different processors for power consumption (also using Blue Iris). Using quicksync saves absolutely nothing in power. All it does is offload from the CPU, but the GPU is still using roughly the same power. Where I eventually settled was a 12th gen i7 that could run Blue Iris along with all the other stuff I use. I do CPU only with Blue Iris. As soon as I switch to using the GPU, cameras start dropping randomly. I've been running Blue Iris for over 10 years and still just stick with CPU only, no GPU. It's been more reliable that way.

support (obv overworked / understaffed) prefers to berate rather than help..
Did official Blue Iris support actually "berate" you, or did you assume the mentally ill guy who runs one of the ip cam forums represents BI?

I was about to go check it out, but, yikes, that is a non-starter. I can see why nobody has ever heard of it.

Yeah, that may have been the case. Been a while.

Doesn't look like it to me. I was interested in Scrypted b/c of the first comment I read here, but it looks like their subscription business model would be ridiculously expensive in your case.
