Pretty nice that it comes with a spare spool so you can have more than one weight of main line to choose from without needing a whole second reel

Could be wrong, but I think the "2 piece" in the details section refers to the rod/reel for the package. I'm hoping the rod is two pieces as well.

Really new to fishing but been talking to a friend and said he'll bring me out surf fishing in nyc for stripers. He lives specifically lives in Staten Island, but I would also use it on Long Island. Is the 9ft deal what I would need?

I am new and in NYC/NJ area. For surf fishing, you would want at least a 9ft. This is a great deal to start off with. The 6000 is a bit big to lug around but I picked it up for soaking bait.
