Great knife Ive had for years to cut up boxes. Heavy duty to basic boxes. Only issues I've had was figuring out how to open it to replace the blade and finding the same dewalt branded blade replacements. I had to go with another brand replacement.

Seems that you are paying for the Dewalt name, the same sort of knife (with replacement blade) regularly goes for $1 at Harbor Freight.

Exactly, it's probably made in the same factory as HF. Can't go wrong with these knives either way but I have two from HF and they works great.

I've used lots of utility knifes of this type over the years and the best hands-down from an operational standpoint is the OLFA 18mm SL-1: the only that trully locks in place(open or close) with just using your thumb and no complicated bs.

Otherwise, yes, plastic $1 generic ones are nearly the same as this Dewalt one for safety. Metal construction does make them more durable, but the blade doesn't really lock.

I don't understand why people compare this knife with the cheap ones from Harbor freight. If you are in the trades you know those plastic ones are junk smh

They also have this same-looking utility knife at Dollar Tree. I own one and it's the best utility knife!

Just came to say that these are the best type of box cutters.

And the best of these types is this one: https://a.co/d/68AJv65

I can't remember the last time I loaded blades 😂

What brand blade replacements have you found that work?

Three for a buck at my local 99 cent store. People are obsessed with brand names. Put Milwaukee on the same exact item and it will go for 1.5 x that and have people saying how great they are. Not too slick. More like a sucker deal.

We in the trades use different types of knives. This is not the primary type of knife that we use but if we have to use one with the long blade like this one we're definitely not gonna use a cheap plastic one we will use this metal type. Hope it helps

18mm blades are the most common and a good middle ground for strength and detail. Some people prefer the 9mm which tend to be for craft use, and some prefer the 24mm, which tend to be more rigid. 12mm exists, but I haven't found blades for them that ship from North America.

Olfa and Tajima are two of the leaders in quality replacement blades, but WorkPro has a fantastic value "super-hard" blade that is comparable to Olfa and Tajimas black "super-hard" blades.

I'm an installer and fabricator, and I prefer snap-off knives to trapezoid blade knives for most tasks. My best snap off knives are Olfa, Tajima, and that one model made by Knipex.

I have a couple of these Dewalts. I don't favor the clip, but otherwise no complaints. They are far more durable than the budget all-plastic models. I've had mine for over a decade and keep one in my car.

Still, if you want to treat yourself to a better snap-off knife, Olfa's are industry standard. The LA-X is very popular with my crew.
