I almost never cook but I do notice knives getting duller over time, and the knife sharpener advice online (like any niche hobbyist/purist advice online) pushes casual newbies (like myself) to over-invest in some (relatively) expensive niche tools that rarely ever get used. $200 knife sharpener set, or at minimum $50-70 knife sharpener set. I'm thinking for casual basic users maybe it's just better to keep buying new knives for $10-$12 every 3-5 years, and 'sharpen' on the bottom of my ceramic mugs in the meantime.

The bottom line is that there are plenty of ways to do this, and they all have benefits and shortcomings. Had I not stumbled upon it as a hobby, I'd use method #1 and the knives offered here would be fine for that purpose.

Unfortunately, the chicken-littles of the world are allowed to run freely here to indulge their need for relevance by trying to inflict their negativity and ignorance on others. Cost of doing business here, I guess.
