Deal History
Deal History includes data from multiple reputable stores, such as Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. The lowest price among stores for a given day is selected as the "Sale Price".
Sale Price does not include sale prices at Amazon unless a deal was posted by a community member.
That price did pop up during the late spring/summertime, but it was a YMMV brick and mortar deal. Sam's Club had it for $999 as well, but again, hard to find and was purely a clearance price. This, however, can be locked in online and shipped to your home, so unless you've got a Sam's or BJ's nearby with clearance stock, this is the one. But of course we're on slick deals, so every thread has someone shitting on the deal lol.
I would not expect to see $999 for the 77" C3 again, because it is likely that all stores have cleared that old C3 stock by now. But if $1,000 is your trigger price, then I'd say to wait until the same cycle comes around for the C4.
I have this panel and it's awesome, by the way. The only upgrade I'll consider is the 83" G4 at this point, but that won't cycle down to $3000 ish until next year.

I just bought a refurb from Microcenter for $1399 a week ago. The first one unusually had ~6000 hours on it. The 2nd had 65 hours and seems brand new otherwise. If it wasn't so inconvenient to swap it, I'd be all over this.
SD thought the 75" X90L was going on sale for $900 from Walmart but it ended up being a different model on sale. I was ready to grab that TV at that price, but the 77" C3 at $1,499 feels like the best deal available at the moment

C4 is brighter than the C3
C4 144hz vs C3 120hz
C3 has ever so slightly slimmer black bezel/border
