Pioneer TV is owned by TCL.
I would just buy TCL if i were to buy Pioneer.
which is quite a sad story consider Pioneer had one of the best TV, the Kuro, that was never matched until LG OLED came out.

Can someone more knowledgeable than me chime in: is that 60 Hz rate trash or nah?

I dreamed of the day I would own a Pioneer LaserDisc. Was so jealous of a guy I knew that had one. now they are selling $180 TVs

60hz is fine for most. Movies are 24fps, sports I think are shot at 30 fps, some console games are 60 fps. "Gaming TVs" will usually have 120hz and auto low latency. At this price I wouldn't expect much, and I would also expect it to be dim. I haven't checked the specs or seen one in person though.

edit; A little poking around, and I could not find a spec with brightness. I did see where this model was on sale for $150 fourteen days ago.

In terms of natural fluid motion handling, Plasma has yet to be matched. Once you see the chopping artificial motion of other TVs, you can't unsee it.

depends if you play video games or not. For television and movies it is perfectly fine. It may not be as good for watching sports depending on how they do motion (I have no idea if it is any good for this tv) but 60Hz has been the regular refresh rates for televisions for decades. It can also be fine for gaming but higher refresh rates are better.

Picked this up when it was $150 to replace my girlfriend's ancient 32" lg she had in the bedroom and she is quite happy with the picture quality. And I'm happy I can see the tv much easier from bed.

This is not THE Pioneer that we used to know, meaning NOT designed by the former Pioneer engineers.
This is simply a bought name by TCL. TCL designs and slaps the name only.

Same goes for Philips, Toshiba, etc.

I wonder if Sony Bravia is still the Japan Sony or China Sony (bought name).

The original post recommended the 55" model, which is the same price as the 50".
$179.99 for 50" or 55".

Caution - I returned the set. Primarily bought it to use as a PC monitor since it did claim to do 4:4:4 at 4K60. However, the text at 4K was unusually fuzzy. I did some further tests and came to the conclusion the panel was not truly 3840x2160. I suspect it's a 1920x1080 panel that supports a 4K signal. The only good thing is - the viewing angle is great … appears to be an IPS panel.
Stay away if you are a stickler for quality
