(although you would need a membership) Sam's Club has a 5TB that has been $100 forever, I was hoping it would go on sale but no. https://www.samsclub.com/p/my-pas..._product_1

There was a deal posted here for WD Elements $80/100 for 4/5GB. The price is still valid but shipping is now 4-5 weeks.

You can stack discounts with Chase Freedom and Paypal to get 10% off.

EDIT: If purchasing through Best Buy. I don't know if Amazon takes Paypal?!?

WD used to be regarded higher than Seagate IIRC. That still the case? I think I'm in for one of these instead of the one I posted actually. Big Grin

not the same device. this is closer to like a usb stick because it doesn't require external power and is much smaller, you can throw in your laptop bag and plug it at a cafe.

seagate expansion requires an external power adapter and everything, and is for you to leave at home because its much bigger as well

I'm not sure about the brand comparison these days but I think Elements is the lowest tier. Someone said that even the WD Utility is not working with those:
Quote from pcgeekpcgeek :
Note that unlike WD MyBook or Best Buy's exclusive WD easystore drives, the Elements series is not supported by WD Utilities.
Therefore, you'll not be able to change or disable the sleep timer.
It doesn't matter if you're going to shuck it, but it matters for those who intended to use it as an actual external hard drive.

I have attached this to a TABLO 4 tuner to greatly increase its capacity, and it worked well.

I'm not sure which is better but I am leaning towards getting the seagate one because it seems to be shuckable while the Western Digital seems to be soldered. Nice option to have in case the USB or whatever goes bad so I could take out the drive to still access the data.

High capacity 2.5" HDDs are most likely SMR.
