cant make up my mind if to get the a1 or a1 combo for my sons first 3d printer
I bought the A1 (and not the combo) and can't say that I miss the AMS. It's quite a bit of extra money, and it wastes quite a bit of filament every time it switches colors.

You'll probably find others that will say get the combo, but for me, the single color A1 has been a great choice.

(Having said that, you'll shortly end up buying more in filament cost than the price of the printer...so it may not matter after a year or two).

Wait so was the Venmo 35% off just from using them as a payment with your own card, or did you need to use a Venmo credit card?

I saw that offer when I was checking out but I assumed it was for using a Venmo Credit Card, which I didn't want and skipped over it. Perhaps I messed up? Frown

I still ended up snagging the A1M for $180 minus $30 TikTok discount. I missed out on the $170 price a couple times cause I was too slow, but $153+shipping was still a really good deal. I just wish I looked at the Venmo offer closer, but I was trying to checkout ASAP so I didn't lose out on another flash price drop.

What did you end up paying for yours with the discounts?
Great question. Yeah when I woke up middle of the night, that Venmo thing was pretty new (or at least I don't remember seeing it when the earlier flash sales were there. It was basically a "link your account and checkout with it afterwards" type of deal, but with Venmo as the processor. I triple -checked to make sure that I wouldn't be charged any fees since even tho I barely use Venmo, I knew Venmo + credit card to send money = a few every time. However, using a linked credit card to SHOP (that's the keyword) at checkout nets no fees at all. After confirming that, it was a cool $75 off the combo.

I spent $305.16 total for the A1M combo ($333.98 + 20 shipping - $41.50 for TikTok Check-ins & Referral -$35 Venmo), which is completely insane for this printer considering how well it prints. Again, I'd be super salty if I wasn't able to do that fake TikTok referral (used an old phone; installed and created "new" referral account; boom, instant credit). I tried to do more referrals since they had additional money they'd give you after reaching certain thresholds, but it didn't work on the same phone lol. I figured $40 + the venmo stuff was more than enough to justify upgrading to the combo and was afraid the price would go up yet again. The regular A1 flash sale was super tempting at $269.99 too, but I knew I wanted to multicolor print more than bigger volume after playing with my current A1M.

In essence, yeah sorry, you missed an easy bag there. But you still 100% got a great deal!

Something to note about the A1 mini Christmas Bundle specifically - the shipping...is $30. The A1 mini alone is $15 shipping and the A1 mini Combo is $20 shipping...

At first glance the A1 mini Christmas bundle looks like amazing value...getting 4 spools for $10 each, but with added shipping it turns into about $14 per spool...still better than the best bulk discount which is $16 each, but if the Xmas colors aren't ideal you may prefer to get the A1 mini alone ...
Bit of a bummer on ship cost.
Bought the A1 yesterday (with 1 filament) for $299 + $15.99.
Shipping for that was only $20.
Not sure how the smaller Mini + 4 filaments equal $30 shipping.

Damn, wish I would have looked into the Venmo deal more because I absolutely would have done the same and just gotten the Combo with the AMS as well.

Oh well, this is my first dip into 3D printing, so my original thought was that if I end up really getting into it, I could always upgrade and get an A1 combo later.

Funny enough I just looked and they have the A1M for $172 on TikTok right now, but the best coupon I have that applies to is $15 off at this point.

It must be one of:
  • An error that will be corrected eventually
  • Inefficient logistics/shipping so they had to increase the shipping price to compensate. Or shipping from an unusual secondary location which would add cost (maybe to use up surplus inventory), though not sure why this wouldn't also affect the A1 mini combo with Xmas bundle unless this also ships from a different location or is handled differently
  • Misleading pricing strategy hoping people ignore the shipping cost and buy it anyway because it "appears" to be good value, which would be really unfortunate if this is the case
Hopefully it's the first one and it'll be reduced eventually when it comes in stock. I know it's only $15 but as a Slickdealer trying to get the most bang for buck and going with the cheapest option, it's not trivial (6-7% cost increase depending on taxes).

I got an Ender3-S1 for my 11 yr old last Christmas. He was initially really excited and did some prints but has been having trouble with printing stuff for a while now and has gotten less enthusiastic. Most of the prints now seem to drag from the nozzle or not print straight. I've tried leveling and bunch of other stuff but haven't had a ton of time to mess with this.I assume the Mini A1 would work more reliably out of the box? He's convinced he needs a resin printer now!
Yes, 100%. That's honestly why the BL stuff is so popular. Most other brands you spend far more time wrestling with the printer than you do actually printing things.
With BL printers, apart from the occasional lemon, it just works.

Was the A1 Combo $449? Is there anyway now to get it back to that price or is $489 the only option. Either way, feels like a great deal..

As someone that has never owned a 3D printer or 3D printed, any tips? I'm thinking of picking up the A1 mini. Does it come with everything needed to print? What does the combo set come with and are they needed?
Also, would I require plenty of ventilation? Are these 3D printer messy?

I watched a few YouTube videos on getting started with 3D printing overall and then specifically to Bambu Labs products. I recommend starting there with the types of questions you have.

Can this thing print gun parts?
Yes. Many accessories are made with PLA Pro or PLA Plus plastics. You can even do receivers in PLA Pro and Plus. Lighter, stronger materials like Carbon Fiber Nylon filaments require an enclosed printer and a drybox or running dehydrator. Search up FOSSCAD for more info. Full guides are posted there as well as many run of the mill parts like storage crates, stocks, handguards, etc.

You would want to purchase some filament either from Bambu directly or 3rd Party. I would probably just pick up a roll of PLA from Bambu for simplicity's sake.

The combo comes with the AMS addon. This will automatically change colors for you in multi-color prints, or just let you keep multiples of the same filament on so you can use up the whole roll and it will automatically switch to a new spool. Its not necessary but a very nice convenience and opens up more possibilities.

These really are designed to print 3 types of plastic, PLA, PETG, TPU. None of these require enhanced ventilation but you should probably make sure you aren't printing them in a tiny enclosed room while occupied.

They do create little piles of filament waste (affectionately known as printer poop) but that is easily contained in a bin you can print.

Comes with everything you need except 3d filament needed to print. If you can get the a1 mini combo you won't regret it. I have 3 bambu lab printers myself, the p1p, a1 combo and a1 mini.

no ventilation needed and they are not messy.

it does require a stable table to put it on, that is it.
