Gaming Perspective: Even at this price, I don't think it's a good monitor. It makes more sense to pay a bit more for something with true HDR. With that said 4k at 144hz is sweet, but as someone who games exclusively on 4k and has multiple 4k 144hz+ monitors/TVs, I wouldn't get this monitor.

I don't have this monitor, but for some reason there is a huge stack of open box ones at my local BB. I guess a lot of people don't like it.

Which monitor of yours would you recommend? I've been back and forth for months thinking I'd get a 27" 1440p (was looking at the LG GR8 something) but more recently been eyeing some 4K monitors (mainly the Acer XV272K).

My teenage son has gotten into photography. He wants a monitor that is good for photo editing first and gaming second. Is this a reasonably good monitor at a reasonable price to meet these two interests?
For pure video editing and photography a good 100% RGB screen would be good. Ideally you'd just have a dual monitor but that is clearly out of budget.
You could get the ASUS ProArt Screen for pure video editing, but its not the best for gaming.
If you want gaming and decent color accuracy with high refresh rate any OLED monitor will do that's in budget, though I personally dislike OLED monitors because of the way the pixels are arranged, and they text layout is fuzzy at best so I cannot stand it.

I tried to price match at Best Buy but they told me the model numbers are different. Did u do via chat or in store?
Chat I give them the link Walmart and everything then they sent me a text to buy it. I could send you a screenshot.

I have the one from bestbuy. This 700 can only do 300 nits compared to 702 which bestbuy has in stock 400 nits.

That's little misleading a lot more does into true HDR than just nits. 600 would be good, not great HDR.

There are a lot of TV features that make a true HDR experience.
You're not wrong, but for basic understanding, I think nit capacity and local dimming is a fair assessment of HDR

I do professional videography work that involves coloring. I have the 32 inch version of this and its pretty color accurate. If you have a samsung phone, you can actually calibrate the colors with the phone as well (Although i have not used this feature, i dont think its needed). Its just a little bit on the saturated side. But pretty easy to edit colors in this. But since gaming is secondary, i think its better if he gets a "proart" series type monitor with low delta values. 60hz is good enough for gaming if its "secondary." And refresh rate would not really matter to photo editing. I needed high refresh rate because i normally edit 120 frame type videos. That does not apply to photos.

Personal opinion, I would not get a 4k display under 32". Have used many 27"-ish 4k panels and everything is too small at 100% display scaling. Increasing display scaling defeats the purpose of having the pixel density of 4k.

Edit: Increasing display scaling defeats the pixel density for my use cases.

High PPI displays with upscaled text look much sharper than native text on lower resolution displays. It's not just about screen real estate.

i feel like this is a bad take.

got a 4k 27" and i think it's great... scaling works really well... i switch from 4k to lower res depending on activity... looks great

I have other gaming displays running at 100%. Display scaling when not all displays match is a pretty bad experience for my use case. Like I said, in my opinion. I switched my 27" 4k displays out for 32" and it has been an improvement.

For what I'm doing, it is about screen real estate. Person opinion and use case. Display scaling in some applications simple does not work well, or uses bilinear scaling so things are just blurry instead of being sharper.

Paid $399 couple months ago for the 32" G70B and it's an excellent monitor. The only thing that I did not like is that 32" is a bit too big to sit in front. I think 28" would be a perfect choice.
