As for which version to get, I recommend Ultimate since it includes extra content but I would look at gameplay first to see if you think it's worth the extra $8.

I could have picked up the Ultimate, but I heard the Lego DLC section was disappointing to many and the other zone is just for drift racing IIRC? Not really concerned if I don't get every car in the game.

And once you accept the absurd premise of the Lego expansion (which shouldn't be that hard because the whole horizon festival premies is pretty absurd),it has a lot of fun extra content and the closest thing that you get to an oval track until FH5
Likewise, all the other extras in the Ultimate version really do enhance the experience. None of it is necessary, but is has some real and useful benefits.
My current pedals and shifter connect to the wheel, so there's only one USB connection. I'm sure my configuration will change in the future, though, so I bought the Microsoft version.
