I'm trying to get my wife a good entry level camera with good video capabilities. We just purchased the Panasonic Lumix dc S5 with 20-60 mm lens. Would this be a better option? I know the Panasonic was new and this is refurbished but if this is a better camera I'd rather go with this. Thoughts? We mostly take pictures of our kids in their sporting events but really want good video capabilities as well. Thank you in advance!
Here's a review where he talks about the video capability of the z6ii and calls out the S5's AF.

Are you going to buy a second lens for sports? Cause 60 or 70mm is way too short for most sports.

The problem with the High Speed Continuous Extended is the viewfinder lags what you're shooting. So if you know what your subject is going to do, say a skateboarder doing a jump, it's fine. But if it's a bird in flight or basketball player, you won't be able to track their movements in the viewfinder very well while shooting 10/14 fps.

ZF, Z6III or Z8 don't have this issue.
Not sure if this is still accurate but:

You're restricted to single point if using AF-C.

My passion is hummingbirds - those wings! I can work and wait for them to visit.
I love trying to get pictures of them as well. I'll say if you can.. try to get a mirrorless that supports precapture.(where you hold down the shutter and "releasing" gives you a set of shots to work with from the last second or whatever you have set. Makes capturing the perfect "moment" so much easier)

Went a little crazy and picked up a Z 24-70 f/2.8 ($1450), as well as a Z 70-200 f/2.8 ($1700). Don't actually have a Z mirrorless camera yet, so still waiting for a Z8 deal or maybe a Z F. Wish I grabbed the $2400 refurbished Z8 a couple months back when I had it in the cart but wasn't fully ready to buy a new system.

Unfortunately even Nikon's top cameras limit pre capture to JPEGs. If you could use RAW that would be awesome. Not sure about other camera makers?

Nice! Those are heavy lenses, I recommend the Z8 since the ZF might be unbalanced.

The Z8 bundle deal (24-120 f4) is pretty good if you have $3500 lying around.

Yeah saw the bundle, decided I wouldn't pick up the f4 lens if I had two 2.8s overlapping the range. I have a lowball green toe offer out from yesterday on a z8 that probably won't trigger. I'll have to decide if I want the $3933 (w/ tax) refurb z8+ 24-120 or a $3470 (w/o tax) Z8 body only new from my greentoe counter offer. Maybe I could sell the 24-120, though not sure it's worth the effort.

Lots of Nikon deals recently so I think you're good to wait.

I know the Sony A9 III and A1 2 will but those are like way outside of most people's ballparks. It's speculated the Nikon Z8 and Z9 "could" support it but for some reason they don't. Though the A1 "could of" probably as well but then Sony would stolen sales from their A1 2 so that was right out the window. I'll say both canon and nikon seem to be doing lots of updates compared to sony who is a release and forget it. Least the A1 was practically abandoned.

I BELIEVE Canon EOS R5 Mark II will do precapture in raw but only .5 seconds(that's still a lot of captures though)

Would be a great firmware update. One of the few Canon features that had me hesitating which system to choose.

OK, that's understandable but that not why the other guy said this camera was junk. He stated the camera only did 5 frames a second when it take 14 frames for jpg and 10 frames in raw, at full resolution.

Been eyeing Z6III for improving that autofocus and low light/high ISO performance over my Fuji cameras. How much worse is Z6II, compared? Feels like either would be an improvement over X-T5, or am I wrong?
Is Z 6II a full frame? being out of the photography for years, never tried the newer Nikon.

I can't ever quite justify bailing on my D610 + Tamron 24-70 f/2.8. It does everything fine.

BUT I just decided to part with my Sony RX1 and I could live with f/4 so I could come out well ahead on the overall buy/sell cycle.

I feel like at a point it makes sense to update just because. I don't think I'd want one of the higher MP bodies.

But maybe I wait a couple years on the Z6III. Slickdeals is a daily crisis this time of year.
